Graduation and Diplomas

Namjoon Pov

The room quiets down as the president of our University gets up to speak. He clears his throat before giving the typical graduation speech. The formalities of a graduation always bored me. My main concern is watching people walk the stage and waiting for embarrassing moments to happen. The ceremony is taking place in our basketball arena that can hold about 2,000 people. The bleachers are high above the graduates as they sit in the chairs below in alphabetical order.

Earlier before the ceremony Jin texted me where he was sitting so I chose my seat according to what exit would get to him faster. He's on the left side in the middle of the students. He sent me a selfie of him in his black cap and gown and he couldn't have looked happier. I swear his face was going to explode from how far his smile stretched but he looked as cute as ever.

I tune back into the speech when it's announced that the graduates will be receiving their diplomas now. I sit up straight as I wait for Jin's name to be called, watching student after student get called up to the stage. I spot Suran walking up the stairs with stilettos and when her name is called a good amount of the graduates and people in the crowd cheer for her. I had no idea she was such a socialite.

I focus back on the stage and smile as Sungkyung takes the stage. She went for a more modest pair of white heels that couldn't be more than two inches. When her name is called a small belt of cheers let out behind me and I look to see who's being so enthusiastic. Hoseok and Momo are cheering behind me with a decorated poster with Sungkyung's name on it. They spot me after they settle down and wave at me.

I chuckle at how perfect they are for each other and focus back on the names being called. It takes another 10 minutes before Jin begins his walk to the stage. He's following a line of people up the steps and I can sense he's a little nervous, but moves across the stage smoothly. When his name is called my voice is outshined by numerous girls cheering for him. Even Hoseok and Momo are drowned out.

He covers his face as he accepts his diploma and starts to walk across the stage when his foot trips over a few cords that line the stage. My hand flies to my mouth as he takes a dive and the crowd goes silent. I rise from my seat and put my hands on the railing that keeps me from falling over. "I love you!" I scream in the silence as he lifts himself up. He looks out into the crowd of people trying to spot me and I wave my hand to get his attention. When he does, he cups his hands to his mouth and screams.

"I love you too!" The crowd goes wild surprisingly at probably the most exciting thing to happen this ceremony and I puff out my chest triumphantly as he walks off the stage with confidence. His classmates pat his back as he gets back to his seat and I sit down as well. My legs bounce up and down as I wait for the closing remarks and soon enough the arena is bustling with families and friends trying to find each other.

Hoseok and Momo reach me before I can go down stairs and hug Jin. "Dude! That was the coolest thing ever!" Hoseok gushes and smacks me on the back. "So you do love Jin."

"Yes, I do." I say confidently. It's like in that moment everything was clear and I realized how stupid I was being. Of course I love him. We've been through so much and my feelings only grew throughout all of it. He makes my heart pound uncontrollably and halts all my trains of thought when he enters the room. I love him so much.

"Hobie! When we graduate you have to do that for me!" Momo says and hugs his side cutely.

"Wouldn't have it any other way." He smiles and kisses her cheek.

"If you'll excuse me I have to find Jin." They wave me off and I dash through the bleachers and find the stairs to get to the first floor. So many people are mingling and crowding the halls for pictures, I have to squeeze to get by. The inside of the arena is semi packed but I spot Jin talking to two other people that I assume are his parents. When the lady turns around I instantly recognize her as his mother.

Jin is holding a bouquet of roses and I'm glad that I didn't purchase any. I knew he would probably get a handful of them. Beside, I bought him something better. I walk towards them and Jin grins when he sees me. His parents part for him and I let him hug me tightly. "Thank you." He whispers and pulls away. "You saved me from public humiliation."

"What kind of boyfriend would I be if I let that happen?" I wink and he laughs in my arms.

"Boyfriend?" His mother walks towards us and Jin pulls us apart.

"Yes, this is my boyfriend." He holds my hand. "We kind of made it official a little while ago."

She breaks out into a huge grin and rushes towards me with her arms open. "Yes! I was hoping this is what it was! Honey! Our boy has finally become a man! I was praying for this!" She rambles and I hug her back. "Welcome to the family."

My face warms at such a big greeting. This feels like we're meeting for the first time. "Thanks..." My eyes flicker to his father who looks amused by the situation. As expected, Jin's parents were open to his sexuality the whole time. Well, this takes away a lot of the pressure. When she lets go of me, she wipes a tear away and holds her husband's hand.

"Namjoon right?" I nod my head and she cheers. "Okay, let's celebrate with some fine dining!"

"Seokjin! Namjoon!" We both turn our heads as Suran makes her presence known. "I'm glad I could catch you before you left. You're both coming to my party aren't you?" My eyes light up at the invitation, but I glance at Jin to see how he's feeling about it. His face is uncomfortable and I sigh as I prepare for the rejected invitation.

"I'm going to eat with my parents, but we'll be there." He says and my mouth almost drops.

"Really?" I say in unbelief.

"Yeah, it's my last college party." He says and Suran hugs him.

"Congratulations to us both and see you there." She says a quick greeting to his parents and then is off to talk to probably everyone in the building. The people are filing out of the arena and going to take pictures outside with the bright sun. I grab Jin's hand as we walk out with his parents. Sungkyung, Hoseok and Momo find us along the way and shower Jin with flowers and praise. They even find a way to joke about his fall without making him feel bad about it.

Looking at them all together brings a smile to my face. Seeing Jin so happy and open to who he is such a turn on. I mean before he was hot, but after he lifted the weight off his shoulders he's irresistible. I lick my lips as I watch him enjoy the company. "If you hurt him, I'll hunt you down." I jump at the words and turn to face Jin's dad. He has a sickly sweet smile on his face and puts his hand on my shoulder. "He's been through a lot and I won't allow you to hurt him like that and get away with it." I gulp as he pats my shoulder and walks over to his son. "Time to take pictures!" He yells and I exhale.

He's silent but deadly.
