"Hello Mr. Farefall. Beautiful day isn't it?"
"Hello Doc. It is nice out. Won't have many more days like this."
"Yeah. Winter is setting in fast this year. I love this time of year though. It looks like God needed a change of scenery so He painted the Earth different colors."
Daton rolled his eyes and looked away. He was so tired of this doctor and his God. The doctor sensed Daton's irritation but decided to push further with some questions.
"Daton, what about God upsets you so much?"
Daton stared at him. No one had ever asked him that. He didn't know if he was ready to answer the doctor's question. To do that would bring up painful memories that he had buried a long time ago.
The truth was his parents had believed in God. They had drug him to church every time the doors were open. When he turned sixteen he got a phone call from the police telling him that his parents were shot for witnessing to a stranger at a gas station. His parents died for God and he was put in foster care until he turned eighteen.
"Daton? Are you alright?"
Daton didn't want to be angry or bring up the past but if it would make the doctor leave him alone he would tell all.
"What kind of God lets innocent people die that were only doing His work? What kind of God leaves a young boy to rot in foster care? What kind of God is that?!"
By this point Daton's chest was heaving and his fists were clenched. He blinked and took a deep breath. He looked at the doctor again. He expected to see the doctor mad because he had yelled and downed his God. Instead he saw compassion in the doctor's eyes.
"You have a lot of anger built up inside of you. I believe Satan is using that anger to keep you from seeing the truth, to keep you from God."
"Listen Doc...I'm not uneducated when it comes to God. I've read the bible. I just don't care. This God let my parents die and left me all alone."
"I'm sorry about what happened to you son. I know that had to be hard to go through. But..."
"NO! NO buts. I don't want to hear another word about God!"
Daton looked at his watch and realized he's been outside way too long. All he had wanted to do was stretch his legs. What if Chivalry was awake? With those thoughts he quickly walked to his wife's room. When he got there his eyes grew round and his heart felt like it would beat right out of his chest. He ran to the front desk.
"Nurse! Come quickly!"
A short woman dressed in hot pink scrubs came into view. "Can I help you sir?"
"My wife! Where is she?"
"What do you mean? Isn't she in her room?"
"NO. She's gone!"
Daton was in a state of panic and from the look on the nurse's face she was in no better shape.
"Mr. Farefall please stay calm. We will find your wife. Just go back to the room in case she comes back."
Within minutes the hospital was locked down and the police were searching every inch of the hospital. Daton wanted to look with them but was being questioned in his wife's room. He couldn't answer any of the questions the police asked. All he could say was, "Please find my wife."
After two hours of searching an officer informed him that they had not found her but were still looking and wouldn't give up. All Daton heard was that they hadn't found his wife. He felt sick. How could someone that's been in a coma wake up and no one notice?
A nurse came in then and handed him some pills and a paper cup filled with water. "Take these dear. They will help calm your nerves."
She led Daton to the bed and gave him orders to rest. As soon as she left he jumped up off the bed fully intending to go find Chivalry. His body had other ideas. He became weak and his eyes became heavy. He sank back onto the bed and not many seconds later was sound asleep.
