Because of Chivalry

Chapter Twenty Two

Sessirah woke up to noise down stairs. When she went to investigate she found Daton throwing things everywhere.

"Daton! What is going on?"

Daton froze. He hadn't meant to wake her up. He was just so angry. "It's been two years since I've seen my wife. I had a lead three days ago but found out today that they died."

"What lead? Start from the beginning and tell me everything."

"Hayllen, Chivalry's nurse at the hospital, looked me up three days ago. She told me she knew what happened to Chivalry and would tell me everything if I met her at a coffee shop down the street.

"She never showed. I called her a few times but she never answered. I went to the hospital and asked about her but everyone said she disappeared the same time Chivalry did. They gave me her last known address. When I got there the door was wide open. I walked in and say her....hanging from a rope."

Sessirah gasped.

"I called the police. Before I left I found an envelope with my name on it. When I got home I opened the envelope and found this inside."

Daton shoved some papers into Sessirah's hands. Sessirah put her glasses on and began to read:

Daton,

You will remember me as Hayllen, your wife's nurse at Bedside Hospital. The truth is I helped kidnap Chivalry. I know you must be hurt and angry. I have thought about you every day. I am so sorry for what I've done. 

Chivalry doesn't remember you. When she came to the hospital she only had the flu but I gave her something that kept her in a coma for two months. When she woke up she didn't remember a thing about you.

She is happy and healthy. She is in good hands. She is also in love with someone else. That "someone else" happens to be the man I love. 

I thought if I told you where she was you could stop their romance so that I could have a shot with him. I realize now that that will never happen. That is why I have decided to end my life. I no longer want to live.

My desire to hurt Chivalry is strong but then I realized I've hurt her more than she will ever know. I'm sorry but I won't betray the man I love.

Sessirah read and reread the letter. How awful. She looked over at Daton to see tears pouring down his face. 

"How can she not remember me?"

"I don't know. Gavin was her doctor. He knows more about medicine than me. Do you want me to call him?"

"If he can help me find my wife then yes. Please call him."

While Sessirah was on the phone Daton's mind was racing. He just couldn't believe that his wife didn't remember him.
