Because of Chivalry

Chapter Twenty Four

"Hello Gavin. Please come in."

"What's going on?"

"Daton needs you. He found someone who could help him find Chivalry."

"That's great news!"

"They died today."

"Oh."

"Yeah, but they left him a letter."

"Where is he?"

"In the living room."

Gavin started that way then stopped and whirled around. "I'm going to talk to Daton but after that you and I need to talk.

Sessirah nodded. "Go."

Gavin walked into the living room and saw Daton sitting on the couch. "Hey Daton. How are you?"

Daton's answer was to shove the letter into Gavin's face. Gavin put on his glasses and began to read. When he was done he put the letter on a table and sighed. 

"Good Lord!"

"Is it true? Does my wife not remember me?"

"I don't know son. Some people wake up from comas and remember everything. Some take time to pull all of the pieces back together. Some never remember."

Daton broke down. Great big sobs racked his body. Sessirah came in and sat down beside him. She gave him some tissues.

"I think we need to pray."

Daton's head shot up and his eyes were shooting angry sparks. 

"Son God didn't kill your parents. An angry man with a gun did. Your parents knew the risks of witnessing to that man. God never said being a Christian would be easy. Your parents love for God paid off in the end. They are now in Heaven singing with the angels."

"Stop it! Lies! All of it! My parents died and God wasn't there for them. And what about me? I was left all alone."

Daton stood and started pacing. "I wanted help finding my wife not a lecture on my feelings for God." He stormed out of the house and slammed the door shut. 

Sessirah gave Gavin a weak smile. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay. He's fighting God but we know how that will end. God will win."

"Yes. Now what did you want to talk to me about?"

Just then Gavin's pager went off. "Sorry. Tonight. I promise."

He kissed her on the cheek and scurried out the door.
