I was rewatching the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl series today, and I got to the episode where Kenny challenges Ash to a battle, with the deal being that if Kenny wins, Dawn goes on a journey with him. And I still don't get why the writers made Kenny win. I mean, look at the facts. He challenged Ash to a regular battle instead of a contest battle. Remember, Kenny is a coordinator, so his main focus when training his Pokemon is on improving the beauty of their moves, not the power behind them. This is different from Ash, who raises his Pokemon to be as physically strong as possible. Because of this, in a normal Pokemon battle, Ash should have easily defeated Kenny. Besides that, are you seriously telling me that Buizel, who stood up to multiple Thunderbolts from Pikachu as a wild Pokemon, can't take a couple steel-type moves from a coordinator's Pokemon? Steel isn't even effective against water.
