A/N: Hey guys! It's in the middle of the night here so I should probably sleeping but I had this chapter almost written and I was so excited to post it that I decided to finish it! It's an extra long one but I decided not to split it cause I didn't want to torture you with another cliffhanger, hope you enjoy xD
"Jonny??!"
I had been staring at his figure for at least half a minute but I still couldn't believe he was real. And most of all, he was here.
Jonny blushed and smiled shyly, he seemed as paralyzed as me. After a while of trying to sort my thoughts I finally managed to bring out a few words again.
"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be on your plane?"
My mind was still spinning, thinking of possible reasons why he might have come back. Could he... Had he maybe come back because he couldn't be without me either? I was starting to get my hopes up high when it suddenly dawned to me. He must just have forgotten something here. Something he couldn't leave without. Yes, that must be it.
My excitement instantly was replaced by a wave of disappointment even though Jon hadn't even said anything yet.
Jonny tried to bring out a word but all he managed was an incomprehensible sound. He blushed even more and looked down on his feet.
"What's the matter Jonnyboy?", I asked in a gentle voice as I could tell he was really nervous.
"Umm well yeah - I should be on my plane...", he stuttered. "And I almost was. But then I turned around. I - I couldn't do it. I just -"
I listened attentively to Jonny's stuttering, trying to get the point he was trying to make.
"I really don't know how to explain it Chris. This is probably the stupidest thing I've ever done."
I was still very much confused but I was trying to give Jonny his space to explain instead of pushing him like my nervous mind was telling me to.
"Don't you want to come in first Jon? Then we can talk about everything."
"Umm sure..."
I held the door open for Jonny but he didn't move.
"Well actually, would you mind if we went down to the beach?"
I was a bit bewildered by Jonny's behavior - first he didn't get on his flight and now he was asking me to go to the beach in the complete darkness, still not revealing the reason for any of his actions - but I nodded without question nonetheless.
Jonny knew the way down to the little bay very well by now and I followed behind him. None of us dared to say a word, there was just too much tension in the air. Thousands of unanswered questions were buzzing in my mind, but I couldn't say any of them out loud.
We reached the empty and dark beach within a few minutes. The water seemed pitch black, except the little bit of it that was sparkling in the moonlight. All sound you could hear was our breathing and the steady cresting and ebbing of the waves. It was a beautiful night, as many days in California. You could see the stars very clearly, especially since there were a few miles between this place and any bright city lights. We kept on walking silently next to each other for a little while until Jonny stopped and turned around to look me in the face. He seemed very tense and nervous. Was something wrong with him? Had something bad happened? I was getting more and more jittery as well.
Eventually we both sat down in the cold sand, still hardly saying a word.
"So...", Jonny finally started and cleared his throat.
