Rolling fields of green
Lead down to the water in the bay so serene
Nearby a bar stands still
With the locals it begins to fill
I shake, nervous in the back
Practicing my routine
On the small stand I take my lean
The sweat on my brow clearly seen
I wait for the lights
I hope for the host
He always starts off with words of boast
Different parties calling toasts
The curtains draw back
I let my arms go slack
"Ladies and Gentlemen,
The great Donna Daring!"
All the people staring
I start to dance with my best foot forward
I spin and twirl
I let my red ribbon unfurl
I twist around the stage
Like a ballerina off the storybook page
No one takes a breathe
No one blinks an eye
They could kill my heart
But instead they bid me be brave
Jumps, splits and spins
Now that it's all over just wait to see who wins
Smiles all over we stand in a line
Other girls so fine did divine
Will I succeed; I just need a sign
The announcer belts out the lucky one; the medal is all mine
I did it and they all love me
I'm on top
Cream of the crop
The host says "Don't you ever stop!"
I make my way out of the bar in the bay
To rest my weak knees at the end of the day
My bed welcomes me
Now with gold in my eyes and happy in my heart; my next goal is all I can see and that's a pretty good start
