so don’t fall in love, there’s just too much to lose..

Description: (Based off of the song "Terrible Things" by Mayday Parade) Dan meets the most beautiful boy he’s ever seen while sitting and waiting for the bus. The boy notices, and they hit it off immediately.

Warnings: It’s fluffy, but you’ll be suffocating in it and you’ll never see the devastating ending coming.

Bus benches are probably one of the most boring, ugly places in the world. No civilized person ever seems to ride the bus, so the benches are pretty much a place for crazy people and stray cats to gather. No one likes sitting on a slab of splintery wood that smells like a trashcan and waiting for 20 minutes to board a bus that was either too warm or too cold and was filled with coughing strangers. Dan was no exception. He hated the bus, but he didn’t have a car, so it was his only choice. Well, he could’ve walked, but let’s be real here. He hated sitting on the stupid grey peeling board that they called a bench. But he always did, every day. And every day, he saw people who he was scared to even breathe the same air as for fear he might catch some peasant disease and die. Until one clear day, he saw him.

He was already there when Dan went to catch the bus. Dan didn’t have anywhere to go, he just needed to go. Since his old roommate had moved out, his flat felt entirely too large and he just needed to go somewhere and do anything but look at the big empty space that was his house. So he was at the bus station, ready for almost anything the world could throw at him. But nothing could have prepared him for this. There was a boy sitting on the edge of the bench. His phone was out, and he was making little frustrated grunts under his breath as he played with it. He was pale and tall and just really, really pretty. Dan sat down slowly, trying not to catch the boy’s attention yet. If he had looked up, he would’ve seen Dan looking him over and just blatantly checking him out. Dan took in every little bit there was to examine about the boy, from his soft looking fluffy black hair to his black skinny jeans and white shoes. He must’ve zoned out, because next thing he knew, the boy was looking up from his phone and clearing his throat. “Um, hello?” he asked, waving a hand in front of Dan’s face. Dan shook himself out of his daze and blushed hard. “Oh, I, um, sorry, I was just-“

"You were checking me out, I know. No need to explain." The boy threw his head back and laughed, and Dan’s heart jumped to his throat. The boy stuck his hand out at Dan and smiled. "I’m Phil." Dan was a little shocked at that quick introduction. He shook Phil’s hand and laughed a little. "I’m Dan. You know, most people wouldn’t shake the hand of a creep at the bus stop who was checking them out." Phil shrugged. "I’m not most people, I guess. Besides, I can tell you’re an okay person already. Sure, you were staring at my crotch, but your eyes said less ‘pervert’, more ‘I’m genuinely interested in you as a person.’" Dan blushed more, and mentally kicked himself for it. He knew he must look so stupid. He was going to continue the conversation, but the bus pulled up and interrupted them. Phil stood. "This is our bus, right Dan?" He nodded and followed Phil up the steps. They both forced into the already over crowded bus. They were pushed together a little more closely that should’ve been comfortable between two boys who had just met at a bus stop, but that didn’t stop Dan from enjoying it. He decided since they were so close, he might as well keep talking to that pretty boy from the bench. "Okay, since we’re pretty close physically right now, let’s talk and make this a little less weird." Phil laughed a little, and Dan decided that he really liked this guy. Not just because he was pretty, but because he seemed to let off a glow that was just so happy and sweet and it made everything, even the stupid bus seem nice. "I knew you were more than a pervert on a bus bench. Okay, rapid fire questions. Favorite movie: Kill Bill." Dan nodded as much as he could in the small space he had. "Nice choice. But I can’t pick a favorite, I watch too many. Favorite game: Probably Final Fantasy at the moment." Phil looked down and poked his tongue out under his teeth. "Oh boy, I love Final Fantasy, but I’m just gonna say Sonic because I’ve always played it so much. You must think I’m a child."
