Description: (Based off of a video which I will put a link to at then end of this) I watched that video and suddenly I realized I needed to make myself sadder. And this was the result.
Warnings: None. Just sad. It’s just sad.
It was a comet.
Maybe it wasn’t a comet. Maybe it was the first video he saw of him in color. Maybe it was the little shock of electricity that raced through him as he stared into Phil’s eyes for what felt like the first time. Maybe it was just pure admiration for everything about the boy on his screen.
Maybe it was love.
But let’s just call it a comet, because that’s what Phil was to Dan.
The boy saw a comet.
The videos gave him life. He’d felt lost, so small and alone in the world, but this boy, this comet on his screen left traces of invisible stardust in Dan’s hair. He didn’t even know he existed, but he was marking Dan as his with every little smile and every laugh and every time he opened his eyes up to the camera. Because he was a comet, and he had crashed directly into Dan’s heart. Dan knew this boy, Phil, would never know who he was. No one would.
And then suddenly, they did.
He can’t even remember what it was. He just remembered waking up and suddenly Phil was subscribed to his channel, which had no videos and only 2 other subscribers. He remembered just staring in disbelief and refreshing the page about 20 times, just checking to make sure it wasn’t a glitch. The rest of his memory was a flash, a bang, a flicker of lightning, and then Phil was calling him on Skype. He picked up with shaky hands and a pounding heart, he was so nervous to say even one word to the boy on his screen now. He’d talked to Phil before, but never like this. Never for real. Phil seemed to understand. He worded it best- “It’s okay Dan, I can wait. I’ll just talk for now. I remember what it was like to be 17.” And talk he did. Phil went on and on, about everything from his young childhood to where he was then, and even his future. Flash, bang, crack. Dan was talking and laughing like they were old friends. He just felt like Phil was another boy lost in the dark, looking for a comet in the blackness. And maybe he was.
The boy saw the comet, and he felt as though his life had meaning.
A year passed in just the blink of an eye. Suddenly Dan wasn’t lost and Phil wasn’t just blue eyes 200 miles away. Phil said he loved him, Phil said he wanted to be with him forever, Phil said he needed to meet him, no matter what the cost. Dan couldn’t believe it. Something so eluding, something like a celestial diamond, something like a comet, someone like Phil, actually wanted him. He couldn’t believe it at all. But he was no one to argue. If the glowing, beautiful boy wanted him, he should get him. And that’s exactly what he got. The moment he got a chance, Dan bought a ticket and went on a long ride to meet Phil. Their first weekend was great. Their first weekend, they filmed their first video together and they walked out under the stars at 2am. They’d lain out in Phil’s yard and watched the sky. A shooting star ran across the sky and Dan squeezed Phil’s hand. “That’s like you,” he whispered. “And every time I see a star like that, I’ll wish for you.”
Phil turned over on his side and smiled down at Dan. “Wish granted,” he’d responded, kissing him for the first time. Little stars flew from between the pair’s lips. Dan had never felt so loved by anyone.
When Dan got back home, he posted his second video on his channel. It now had 1000 subscribers, thanks to Phil.
And when it went away, he waited his entire life for it to come back to him.
