Description: (Phil’s POV) Dan is scared to go on the roller coaster, but Phil has him ride anyway.
Warnings: (I AM A BAD PERSON BECAUSE WHEN I SAW DAN’S VIDEO I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT “DEATH FIC” WOOPS) Death, Dan being a stupid stupid stupid.
Dan always lived a little too recklessly for his own good. He never really acted on any of his stupid ideas, but when he did, they never turned out good. He’d decided that he definitely could find a way to take his laptop in the bath with him (no, he couldn’t). He’d supposed there must’vebeen a chance that he could jump the couch (he could not). He’d even decided he couldtotally change every lightbulb in our flat within a minute (the result was a lot of broken lightbulbs). All pretty stupid things he’d done. They had resulted in a dark, glass filled apartment, a broken laptop, and a twisted ankle, but nothing super serious. I never really worried about him. I knew Dan wasn’t exactly the smartest all the time, but I thought he’d never do anything stupid enough to really hurt someone, or himself.
To put it to myself as gently as possible, I was flat-out wrong.
It had been a great week. It was actually one of my favorite times of year, because Dan always just seemed so happy and that made me happy. It was the beginning of the meetup season, starting with Playlist Live. We went together like every year, and we had a lot of fun meeting our fans and getting presents and hanging out with our other YouTube buddies. But this year, we decided to go to Disney together since we were already in the area. To tell the truth, though, Dan had practically begged me to go, and since Dan was just so adorable, I just had to say yes. So we went, and it was really great. Everything that had happened in the past week had been great. Everything was great, until we went on the stupid roller coaster.
Dan hadn’t wanted to go on it. He’d been a little scared, he said he’d looked it up and it didn’t seem safe. But I dragged him on, and I made him strap in beside me. He was actually shaking a little, and he looked terrified, but I grabbed his hand and smiled at him. That seemed to relax him a bit, but his grip re-tightened on my hand when the ride lurched into motion. I laughed a little, my stomach shooting up as was usual on a ride like this one. He didn’t loosen his hand even once as we went up the first rise. I turned to him and smiled wider. “Ready?” I asked him. He squeezed his eyes shut. “No,” he mumbled, and he grabbed at my hand even harder.
I laughed as we shot down the drop, the sound fading back into the wind. I don’t think he screamed. I think he was too busy being absolutely terrified. His hand stayed in mine, and I knew he was there, so I didn’t worry. I just laughed because this was fun, and the fearless Dan Howell was clinging onto me for dear life. “Come on, Dan, you won’t get hurt,” I assured him. He just shook his head at me and kept his eyes shut. We went up, down, up, down two more times before I tried getting him to open up his eyes again. We started up the 4th hill in the track, and I let go of the bar in front of us completely. “Dan, come on, open your eyes. Look, you can see everything.” I put my newly free hand on his face and turned him to face out to the side as the cart slowly chugged up the chains we were riding on. He resisted for a moment, but his eyes flickered open slowly and he looked out over, just for a second. Then he pushed my hand off of his face and leaned out on his own accord.
"Oh wow, you can see everything," he breathed after some time. I chuckled and scooted over closer to him, looking out at the same view he was. He smiled and shifted his weight into me. I put one arm around him and tilted his head back, kissing his forehead. "I like this view a little better," I said with a smile, and he blushed up at me. He leaned back out a little further this time. "No but look, you can see literally everything. Look, all the stores. All the people look like ants from way up here, Phil." He was grinning and all I could do was nod. He was just so cute, I wanted to hug him forever. Now, I wish I had. He continued ranting about what he could see as we slowly pulled up to the top of the rise. "Oh, and look! You can see the- Woah!”
