Description: (BABY DAN AND PHIL OH YES) Phil decides he is old enough to look after Dan on his own.
Warnings: None. I just had such a need for more baby Phan that I wrote it myself.
"You sure you’re old enough to watch him by yourself, Phil?"
Phil crossed his little arms and nodded, planting his feet firmly on the ground. “Yes. I’m 5, I’m not little no more.”
His mother laughed at those words and shook her head a little. “Well, okay. Mrs. Howell will be here in about an hour. I’ll be right in the next room if you need me.” Phil nodded and pushed on her leg a little. “Okay, now go. I need to teach him stuff.” His mother left, still chuckling. Her little boy thought he could take care of Dan all by himself.. Oh boy. She went into her office right next to the room and put on her headphones, working.
In the other room, Phil was trying to show off all his toy cars and games to Dan. Of course, being 1 year old, Dan didn’t care very much. Dan was sitting on the floor, only half-upright. He was just giggling as babies do, drooling on the floor, but Phil didn’t notice. He was too busy pulling down all his coloring books and crayons and showing off. When he turned around, he sighed at the dribbling boy leaned half over on his floor. He walked over and sat his little friend upright and plopped down beside him. “You’re supposed to sit up like this,” he told him, gesturing to how he was sitting, with his legs crossed over in front of him. Dan stared at Phil’s legs for a minute before trying to copy him. He moved one chubby leg over and bent it across with ease, but the second one proved too difficult for him. He fell backwards again, landing with a soft thump on the fluffy carpet.
"It’s okay, you’ll get it someday." Phil sat him back up and reached over behind himself. Maybe Dan didn’t care about his trucks and his crayons, but Phil knew exactly what Dan would care about. "Look!" He pulled his hand out from behind him, holding out his own favorite of his toys. Dan smiled wide with his 6 or 7 teeth and reached out for it, clapping his hands at Phil. "Beh!" he said, leaning in for the toy. Phil smiled and handed it to him, though it was still reluctantly. It was Phil’s toy after all, and it was his favorite. But Dan was his best friend, almost his brother, so he decided he could share. Dan took it from him and immediately put the bears ear in his mouth, chewing on it a little. “This bear is from that TV show you like, Dan. You know, he’s Winnie the Pooh. Can you say that?”
"Wiwwy?" Dan asked, the bear’s ear still half in his mouth. Phil smiled more. "Sure. Close enough." He watched Dan chew on his bear’s ear for a few more minutes before standing up and stretching. Dan saw him and dropped his toy, trying to copy Phil. Of course, he wound up falling down again. Phil went to his little friend and grabbed his wrists, pulling him up into a standing position. "Here, I’ll help." He started walking forward, letting Dan lead him in dizzy circles around his room. It went on that way for maybe 4 minutes before Dan just stopped and sat down, Phil still holding his arms. Phil let go and sat beside him again. "You’re getting really big, Dan," Phil said, watching as Dan picked up the bear again. "I remember when you were really little." Dan smiled another wide, mostly toothless smile and set the bear down in Phil’s lap. Phil smiled and picked it up, it’s ear still wet with Dan’s slobber. "For me?" he asked, holding it to his chest tightly. Dan nodded and put his hand on Phil’s. "Fi wike beh?" he asked expectantly, looking into Phil’s eyes. Phil nodded and put the stuffed animal down. "Yes, I like it very much."
Dan eventually took the bear back and chewed on it more, and Phil sat quietly to the side and colored. A few times, Dan tried to eat the crayons, but Phil told him no and showed him how to draw a smiley face. After a long time, it felt much longer than an hour, there was a quick knock at the door. Phil looked up to see it swing open, both of their mothers standing there, looking in at the two boys. Dan looked up too, now with the bear’s leg in his mouth. Phil’s mother stepped in first, ruffling Phil’s hair. “Did you two have fun?” she asked, and Phil nodded. “Yeah.” He looked over his mother’s shoulder to see Dan being picked up.
"Hi, Danny. Did you like it here?" Dan didn’t respond with even a grunt, but instead scrunched his nose down at the floor. His mother pulled him off her shoulder and out into the air in front of her. "Well, did you? Did you?" she cooed, trying to kiss at him. Dan jerked his head away and pouted towards the floor again. Phil noticed and followed Dan’s eyes down to the dropped toy. He didn’t move still, but watched as Dan squirmed around, trying to get free. It didn’t take long for him to start crying and wriggling more, trying to get his little feet back on the ground. "Oh, no, don’t cry. It’s okay, it’s okay.." His mother started bouncing him, trying to make him stop crying. That’s when Phil stepped out from behind his own mother.
"I can make him stop crying," Phil said confidently, reaching his arms out, inviting her to place the crying boy in them. She shook her head, still bouncing Dan. "No, it’s alright, I think I’ve got it," she said. Phil shook his head back at her. "No, look." He bent down a little and picked up the bear. "Is this what you want?" he asked, holding it out to him. Dan closed his mouth and stopped wailing. His mostly toothless grin returned, and he reached out, trying to grab the toy. Phil smiled almost smugly. "See? He just wanted the toy. Here, Dan." He handed the slightly chewed bear to Dan, who stuck the leg back in his mouth. Dan’s mother widened her eyes and turned to look at Phil. "Well, you did know better than me. My apologies." Phil just shrugged a little, and turned back to his own mother. "Mum, do you think it’d be alright if I let Dan have my bear?" he asked.
"Really?" she responded, looking between Dan who was now just hugging it tightly and Phil, who was gazing up at him. "I thought it was your favorite."
"It is," Phil answered, still looking at Dan hugging the bear tightly. "But I think Dan likes it even more than me." His mother smiled at how Phil was smiling up at him with so much affection. "I’m sure it’d be fine for Dan to have that, then."
"Phil!" Dan interrupted, dropping the bear again, but not caring much that time. The all turned to look at him, and he was clapping and reaching again, but this time, for Phil. Phil walked closer and picked the bear back up, letting Dan cling on to his finger. "I guess he learned to say my name." He said it calmly, but his huge smile gave away how happy that made him. They all stood there like that for a while, every now and then Dan calling out Phil’s name again and breaking the happy silence in the room.

"Are you sure, Phil, honey? I mean, he’s a little bigger now.. You might not be able to handle him."
"Yes, mum, I’m sure. He’s bigger, but I’m bigger too. I’m 6 now, you know." She nodded but still set the other boy down with a bit of caution. "Well, okay. But let me warn you, he’s got a lot of energy." Dan tottered out of her arms and directly to Phil. Phil’s mother closed the door and shook her head a little, smiling to herself. "Those two.." she muttered, walking to her office. Inside the room, Phil had pulled down his cars and such again, and 2 year old Dan was a little more interested. "I like da red one," Dan said, pointing to a little red truck Phil had placed on the ground. Phil nodded. "Yeah, I like that one, too." Dan sat down the toy he already held in his hands and reached for it, pushing it all around the floor. "Vroom," he said, running it into the walls and in large circles. "Vroom!"
With Dan distracted, Phil had the chance to reach over and gently pick up the little toy Dan had dropped in order to play with the truck. Dan ran around him, trying to get his attention. “Look, Phil, lookie! It’s so fast! Look out! Vrooooom!”
Phil just smiled and the boy and looked back down at what he now held. He smiled a little more as he ran his hand over the little bear’s chewed up ear.
