"What is this?" my mom asked, taking the beer bottle out of my hands. "Have you been drinking?! Oh my gosh Sara wait till your father hears of this!"
"You can't take matters into your own hands?" I asked without thinking.
"Excuse me?"
The guys all looked at me like I was crazy.
"You heard me." I stood up and faced her.
"Your attitude lately has been unacceptable lately and I believe it's all his fault," she said, pointing to Luke.
"You can't blame him for everything. It's not his fault!"
"Don't you dare raise your voice at me!"
"I'll do what I want! you can't control everything that I do!"
"As long as you live under my roof, I most certainly can!!"
"Then I'll move out!!"
"To where?!?! You've got nowhere to go!"
"I have friends you know mom!"
"Are they really your friends?!"
"Of course they are! Why wouldn't they be?!"
"Because half the boys you are 'friends' with want to only have sex with you!!"
"None of them would ever think that!! What kind of a sick person are you?!"
My mom glared at me. I had no idea what was coming next.
"Come with me!" she said, grabbing me by the wrist.
"Let go of me!!" I yelled. I tried to pull out of her grip, but she was too strong and angry.
"Stop trying to get out or it's gonna get worse!!"
"It already is worse!! You don't trust me enough to do anything on my own! I hate you!!"
The boys gasped. My mom turned to face me. A look of anger and sadness sat upon her face at the same time. Then, she smacked me across the face. She let go of me and walked back to our house without saying another word. My hand shot up to where she hit me. It burned. Like a lot. Luke came over to me and pulled me into a hug. I turned towards him, buried my head in his chest, and cried. He rubbed circles in my back and tried to calm me down. Jesy, Michael, and Ashton came out.
"What happened to her?" Jesy asked. Strike answered by telling the whole story almost perfectly. Jesy came over to me and rested her hand on my shoulder. "I never thought you would finally stand up to her."
"I feel bad," I said. It's sounded muffled because my head was still in Luke's chest.
"I know you do. But it had to be done."
Luke let go of me and Jesy replaced him. She hugged me tight for a long time. I cried into her shoulder. Finally, I stopped crying.
"So....." Calum said.
"What now?" Taylor asked.
"No idea," Luke said sitting down. I walked over and sat in his lap and rested my head on his chest. He wrapped his arms around me.
"Why don't we play a game?" Jack suggested.
"What game?" I asked.
"How about, let's try and make Sara laugh game?" Ashton said, gently shaking my thigh. I smiled.
"I'll go first," Michael said. "Why did the chicken cross the road?" I shrugged. "To get to the other side."
I laughed at his lameness.
"There's the smiling and laughing Sara we all know and love," Calum said.
"That was a really lame joke Michael," I said.
"Hey, at least it got you to laugh."
"Touché."
We talked and laughed for a little while longer. Then I started to get really sleepy. I fell asleep in Luke's lap and only woke up when I felt someone carrying me somewhere.
"Go back to sleep, babe," Luke whispered to me. "The party's over and most people are gone. Jesy, Michael, Calum, Ashton, Taylor, Strike, Jack, you and I are the only ones left. Just sleep. You really need it."
I felt him put me down on a bed that I assumed was his and started to fall back asleep. He crawled into the bed with me and held me tight. I smiled at his comforting embrace and drifted off to sleep.
