"I still can't believe all the shit that's happened to you in the past few months," Luke said as we sat in the ice cream shop.
"It's crazy to think just a few months ago I was a goofy two shoes," I laughed. Luke joined in.
"Yea. Until I corrupted you."
"You didn't corrupt me."
He raised his eye brow at me.
"Okay maybe a little," I added.
"Or a lot."
"Shut up Luke!" I giggled.
"I feel like all of this is my fault," he said. He looked down at his ice cream on the table.
I grabbed his hand in mine.
"It's not your fault. None of this is. Maggy has never liked me. It's just now she's starting to show it because I'm coming out of my shell."
"And you're dating me."
"That has nothing to do with it Luke. And who cares if it does? I love you, Luke. You love me too, right?"
"Of course I love you. You're the most amazing girl I have ever met."
"So then who cares what Maggy thinks. I certainly don't."
"I guess your right."
"Man it is a small world isn't it?" someone said to us as they walked in.
We turned towards the door and saw Jesy and Michael.
"Hey guys," I said.
"We don't want to intrude on your little date so we will go sit over there," Jesy said.
"No it's okay. You can sit here."
"You sure?"
"Of course I'm sure. You're my best friend. You shouldn't even have to ask if you can sit here."
She laughed. "You're right."
"Aren't I always?" I asked, smiling.
"Sure. Whatever floats your boat. Well we're just going to get our ice cream and then we will join you guys."
"Sounds like a plan."
"You don't mind if they sit with us, do you?" I added when Jesy and Michael were at the counter.
"Of course not. I mean I would've liked to have it be just me and you but she's your best friend and I respect that," Luke answered.
"Hey, you and I can hang out alone later tonight."
"Don't you have homework to do?"
He smirked at me. I smacked him which made him chuckle.
"I actually don't. It was the first day of school so no homework," I answered.
"Good."
He kissed my cheek as Jesy and Michael came over to our table.
"So what are you guys doing this weekend?" Michael asked.
"Chilling at my house. Watching movies. Cuddling. The usual. Why?" Luke replied.
"There's a party at my house. I was wondering if you guys wanted to come. I'm definitely not inviting Maggy and her possy."
"What if they just show up though?" Jesy asked.
"My brother can kick them out," Michael answered.
"You have a brother?" I asked.
"Yea. He doesn't come out much."
"Obviously. I've been over to your house how many times for your band practice? And I still haven't seen him?"
"I've seen him like once. He's very bigs like muscular wise and he doesn't talk much," Jesy said.
"That's like the complete opposite from your brother," I said. She laughed.
"Definitely. Do you know what he did when I brought Michael over for the first time?"
"No. What did he do?"
"Joe literally took him into a room, sat him down, and asked him question after question after question. I thought they were never going to stop!"
"I didn't either," Michael said.
"This is one of the reasons I'm glad Sara is an only child," Luke said.
I realized that I actually didn't know much about Luke's family. Did he have a father? Did he have any siblings? Why is his dad no longer there?
A bunch of questions formed in my mind. I'll have to ask him later.
"But Ashton, on the other hand. That's a lot of kids for his mother to have to take care of," Michael said.
"What about his dad?" Jesy asked.
"His dad isn't really home that much. He leaves for work in the early morning and sometimes doesn't come back until late late that night," Luke answered.
"Wow. It must suck to not have your father there."
I looked at my ice cream, which was now turning to soup, with a blank expression on my face. I stirred my spoon around a little.
"You okay?" Luke whispered to me.
"Yea. I just- I kinda miss my parents," I answered.
He pulled me into a hug and kissed my forehead.
"You'll see and talk to them soon. I promise."
"I hope so."
"I know so."
"You think you know everything, Hemmings."
"I do know everything."
"Not really."
"But I do."
"Yea. Okay. Whatever floats your boat I guess."
He started to tickle me.
"We're going to head out now. See you guys tomorrow," Luke said.
"Bye guys," I added.
I skipped over to Luke's car and got in.
"You need to stop being adorable," he said once he was in the car.
I giggled. "I can't help it."
"Yes you can."
"Can't."
"Whatever."
"I win that argument."
"For now."
I smiled at him as I turned on the radio. I turned it up and stared out the window at the passing trees.
