For the rest of summer, I didn't return to my own home. My dad told me he was still trying to convince my mom. He said that the space was really helping her realize, but she was still pretty stubborn right now.
I stayed at Luke's house for the rest of the summer. I occasionally went to Jesy's house, but most of the time her and Michael came to Luke's house. Ashton got grounded but managed to sneak out almost everyday with our his mom noticing. And that was basically the rest of summer. I'm pretty much a Hemmings now.
So today is the first day of school. My dad brought my school supplies over a few days ago, so I was good there. I set an alarm for 6 am so I could get up and take a shower. Luke groaned as it went off.
"Did you have to set it for so early?" he asked, sitting up in the bed.
"You didn't have to get up yet. You can go back to sleep," I answered.
He sighed and laid back down in bed.
"I'll wake you up when I'm done in the shower," I told him. He groaned a response.
I grabbed my clothes for the day and a towel and walked into the bathroom. I took a 15 minute shower then got dressed in the bathroom. By the time I was done, it was 6:30. I walked back into the bedroom and lightly shook Luke to wake up. He groaned for about the fiftieth time this morning and finally got out of bed. I watched him as he walked over to his closet and grabbed a shirt and shorts, not even looking to see if they matched. He changed into them and I laughed at him.
"What?" he asked, clearly confused.
"Nice color combination," I laughed.
He looked down at his clothes and groaned again. He picked out a red shirt and green shorts. He looked like Christmas. He changed into a completely different outfit, putting on his Nirvana tshirt and a pair of kaki shorts.
"Much better," I giggled.
He walked over to me and picked me up. Then he threw me over his shoulder and carried my down the stairs. I was giggling the entire time while I tried to get down. Liz came out and laughed at us.
"Liz! Help me!" I yelled. She laughed even harder.
"Luke, put her down," she eventually said. Luke obeyed. He immediately grabbed my hand before I could walk away.
We each grabbed a bagel then went back upstairs to grab our bags. I checked the time as we started to head towards the garage. 7:15. Luke unlocked his car and we both climbed in. He opened the garage door and we headed to school.
Since this was our senior year in high school, Luke could get a parking spot closer to the school. He pulled into the spot in between Ashton and Michael's cars. We both got out and headed inside. Luke grabbed my hand and started swaying it back and forth. I smiled at him as we walked in the doors.
"Sara!" Jesy called to us. She came running up with Michael not far behind. She had a worried expression on her face.
"What's wrong?" I asked her.
Before she could answer, I found out what was wrong. I saw Maggy, Will, and Pete walking right towards us.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't the loser squad. Where are your other losers?" Maggy said as she got closer.
"Hey just fuck off," Ashton said, walking towards us.
I looked for Calum and saw him hanging out over to the side, just watching us. I sighed and turned my attention back to Maggy.
"Hey don't you dare say that to her, Irwin," Will said. He took a step towards him. I grabbed Ashton's shirt and pulled him closer to us.
"Come on guys. I need to go to my locker," I said, trying to get them to walk away.
I dragged Luke away and the others followed.
"You can't run away from all your problems!" Maggy yelled after me. I ignored her.
Calum joined us when we reached my locker.
"Oh it's so nice of you to join us, Calum," I said with attitude.
"Why so much attitude?" he asked.
"Hey, if you don't want to come support your loser friends when something like that happens, then don't hang out with us at all."
I closed my locker and turned to walk towards home room. I didn't care if anyone followed me or not. I heard footsteps behind me as I turned the corner but ignored them.
"Hey loser! Quit walking so fast!" I heard Maggy say. Shit.
"What do you want, slut?" I turned and asked her. That pissed her off.
"I want you to show me some fucking respect first off."
"You've lost all my respect for you."
"What the hell did you just say to me?" Now she was all up in my face.
"Awe you've lost your hearing too?"
I turned and continued to walk while she stood there dumbfounded.
"I don't like your sass lately," she said, walking behind my.
"Don't care," I replied.
Before anything else could happen, I heard someone running towards me. I expected it to be Maggy, but was surprised when I saw Calum running towards me.
"Sara, look. I'm sorry. I don't mean it that way. It's just, I've-"
"Never been called a loser?" I finished for him.
"Yea."
"It's alright. I get that. But you could at least stand up for your friends when they are being called that. Heck, you should do that even when you're being called that."
Calum looked down at his feet. "I know. And I'm sorry. I'll be better now. I promise. Do you forgive me?" He looked at me with sad eyes.
"I do forgive you, Calum."
His face lit up. I hugged him and he hugged me back. Someone cleared their throat and we pulled away.
"Thank you," Luke said, wrapping his arm around my shoulder. I rolled my eyes and Calum laughed at me.
"This isn't over Sara!" Maggy screamed.
"I think it is though!" I called back.
