Chapter 28

"Congrats tonight Maddie, the judges were being very harsh tonight but you managed to get an amazing score." Derek says as we're driving home. "Thanks" tears fill my eyes. "Happy tears?" He rubs my shoulder. I shake my head "disappointed tears." "Disappointed!? You did great tonight!" I shake my head again "I'm not disappointed about how I did or how Kevin did or our scores, I'm disappointed that that was my first show I did that good and......Harrison wasn't there to see it......" "Aw Maddie" Derek gives me a little side hug. "You know he was there, just in a different form." I nod my head as a tear rolls down my cheek.

We walk in the front door to a silent house. "I'm gonna take a quick shower than head to bed." I point upstairs as I walk towards the stairs. "Sounds good" Derek agrees. "I actually might so the same thing."

I get in the shower and let the water pour down my face. This is where I do my thinking, sometimes I think of ideas that I wish would happen, or reflect on the day. I start thinking about if Derek will replace Harrison or not. He could, might brighten up the place again. It could be to soon, might bring back to many memories. Or is that a good thing? I don't I guess I need to talk to Derek about this. Then I hear "Maddie?" Come from the door. "Yeah?" I ask back "can we talk once you're done?" "Yeah!" I spit the water out of my mouth "give me a sec!" I shut off the shower and dry off.

"What do you need to talk about?" I walk out of the bathroom wrapping a towel around my hair. "Well, I was think while I was in the shower." Then it hit me, was he thinking about what I was thinking about? "Funny, I was thinking to!" I let out a tiny laugh. "Yeah, then you go first." Derek sat on my bed. "Um, ok."

"Well I was thinking, well, wondering, if you would ever find someone to replace Harrison?" I could tell by his facial expression that NOT what he was thinking. "Well, first of all, no one could ever replace him but, have I ever thought of getting someone else yes. Which leads me into what I was thinking about." "Ok!" I sat down beside him. "I was thinking since we are, kind of, a, thing......I guess you could call it." "Are we?" I ask in shock. "Yeah, at least I think so." "So your my boyfriend?" Just comferming that we're on the same page. "Yeah, you're my girlfriend." "Ok...." I smile contently. "Anyway, so since we're dating, I thought maybe we could move in together." I give him a puzzled look. "What do you mean? We are living together." "I know but I mean like, find a new place, a place that we both pick out, a place to call ours." I blush. "We can start over there but still keep the parts we want to." "Ok!" I smile.
