"Don't learn anything if you don't have to." those words keep swinging and flying in my mind.
I catch his hand right before he turns the doorknob and unlocks it.
"Wait!" I say. "If it's going to get more complicated...I don't want to live it! Whatever's inside, I don't care. I want to go." I say, opening my eyes hugely and looking Rick right un the eye. "Please." I add.He sighs. "Where are you gonna go anyway? After you leave? What are you so desperately hoping to find?" He smiles with pity.
"I-I don't know...I never quite thought of that. I just...I don't know. I want to get away." I shrug "Maybe find my dad?"
Rick's smile fades. "Y-your dad?" he says.
"Yeah...you know...the one I never quiet knew."
"So you don't know..."he says quietly.
"I don't know what? Rick tell me!"
"I don't know what mother will think of that...if I tell you I will get in trouble..."
"She won't find out, I promise." I smile. "Come on now, tell me."He takes a deep breath. "Alright then." He clears his throat and takes another breath.
"Your dad was taken to the mental hospital years ago and he's...escaped."
