A chubby boy ran across the station, towards his tall friend sitting close to platform 9. His mouse brown hair had grown longer during the summer, and belly had grown wider.
"Remus!"
He called for the sleepy boy, whose tired face lit up to a smile as he saw his friend.
"Pete. How was your summer?"
Remus asked, standing up just to notice how tiny Peter was compared to him. Well, the chubby boy hadn't grown any height during the months they had been apart. Remus felt like he was a giant standing next to a tiny rat.
"It was good."
He said, scanning the taller boy's visible body parts with slight concern, looking for fresh scars.
"Good. Mine too, kinda."
Remus of course noticed that concern in his friends eyes, and his voice turned less cheerful. Remus didn't want any pity, or any kind of worry from his friends, because he believed that they had enough sorrow in their lives without carrying a part of his.
"That's great. Is James here yet? Or Sirius?"
"No, I don't think so."
Remus shrugged, maybe a little too coldly. Peter looked into the taller boy's golden eyes a little awkwardly, with even more concern.
"I know you're not okay. I hope you know that you can talk to me about it, to all if us."
"Stop it Wormtail, I'm fine."
He rolled his eyes. The shorter boy looked down at his shoes, thinking.
"Hey, remember second year when we pranked James and Sirius with all that muggle stuff?"
Peter started, hopeful smile creeping up on his lips. Remus nodded, not sure if Peter was trying to suggest something, or just change the subject to something he felt more comfortable in talking about.
"I have an idea."
He smirked.
"I'm not really feeling like making mischief today, Wormy."
The smile immediately fell from Peter's face. He took a deep breath and mouthed a silent "fine", before sitting down next to Remus.Minutes passed as the two sat in silence. Well, it wasn't really that silent as the platform was swarming with busy muggles, and Peter was loudly munching on his sandwich. The clock was closing eleven, and the families in odd clothes that hurried past them, seemed to disappear trough the pilar of platform nine. They should go too, sooner or later, but just as every year they had to wait for James before getting on the train or he'd be a whiny little bitch about it the entire trip to Hogwarts.
Peter didn't want that. Simply because of his odd need for silence as he ate, and well, he ate the entire time they sat in the train, and such disrespect towards his eating was not okay.
And Remus didn't want that because it caused him headache. Truth to be told, James had one hell of annoying whining voice, and Remus' oversensitive sense of hearing just couldn't take that right now.And then out of nowhere, Peter stopped eating. He swallowed the piece of bread and butter in his mouth, eyes widening on something. It had to be very important, as Peter never stopped eating like that. Remus followed the chubby boy's glance across the platform, and let out a shocked gasp.
It was Sirius. His beautiful, heroic, funny, amazing Sirius, looking honestly like a battered shit carrying way too many trunks. The long haired boy's eyes were dark and baggy, hair a mess and... Remus couldn't even bring himself to wonder how or why was his best friend's face full of bruises. He was too scared, too shocked.
