The fall became darker day by day. The wind got colder, the days became shorter. Now, as James and Peter knew about what was going on in between Sirius and Remus, the ambiance in their dorm room was a lot more relaxed. It didn't have the feeling of secrecy on it anymore, but the good old laughter and happiness hadn't returned either.
Sirius and Remus though, they hadn't made much progress in their relationship. It was still just cuddles, gentle kisses, midnight cigarettes on the tiny Gryffindor balcony. But they were boyfriends now, officially. And nobody could know that, what sucked. Every time Remus saw a couple kissing in the hallway, holding hands on their way to herbiology class, he felt a little sting in his heart. He craved that, the tiny things like holding hands in public. It might seem silly, but the fact that he could never have that with Sirius, at least as long as Orion Black was alive, it made him very sad.
While Remus spent his freetime reading and playing with Sirius' hair in front of the fireplace, James kept trying to catch Lily's attention. He always succeeded, the attention he got back was always negative though. Apparently Lily and Snivellus had some kind of a fight the other week. Peter and James had been stealing snacks from the kitchen, and as they had returned to the Fat Lady, they had found someone rather unexpected. Severus Snape, his greasy black hair and pale, frowning face. What he was doing there, somehow James had found that out. Threatening the poor boy, maybe.
Snivellus was waiting in front of the doorway for Lily to come out, just so he could talk to her. It was quite heartbreaking, really. But James found it disgusting, and told the bat-like boy to back off and stop harassing the poor girl.
"I'm her best friend, Potter. And you're nothing but an egoistic admiror."
He had said, not moving from his place next to the painting.
"Are you sure? Are you really sure, because last I checked you were a Slythering hanging out with Malfoy's gang. And Lily, she has never been that fond of Malfoy's gang."
James had got a bit aggressive, Peter tried to pull him back.
"How would you know? And I'm not hanging with Malfoy-"
"Oh yeah? You think I don't notice you sitting there with him, Crabbe, Goyle and the rest of you?!"
He pushed Severus against the wall. He was seemingly scared, and this time Peter actually took James by the sleeve and pulled him off of the already shaking boy.
"Come on Prongs, he's not... he's not worth our time."
He muttered, flashing a fast sorry look at Severus as they walked away.

Lily had seemed a bit off too during those times. She hung out mainly with Alice and Marlene now that she wasn't in terms with Severus, what wasn't weird at all. But the weird part was that when James desperately tried to flirt with her in the common room, making a complete fool of himself, she let him.
It surprised everyone. Maybe even Lily herself, but most of all James. The boy couldn't believe it, that every time he threw a cheesy pick-up line, the red haired girl actually looked at him, and maybe even laughed. She even joined the muggle game "truth or dare" that Peter suggested one saturday evening.

James of course had already started to plan out their fucking wedding bouquets, as in reality Lily was just making Severus jealous on purpose. If giving James Potter, the most idiotic and overly confident Gryffindor of all times false hope in order to get Severus back off from Malfoy's gang, she'd do it. If it meant she'd have to stand the boy's shitty jokes and annoying speeches mixed of compliments and half funny insults, she'd fucking do it, because Severus had been her best friend since they were little. And Lily Evans, she wasn't that kind of gilr who'd let her best friend slowly slip into the darkness.
