Lily this, Lily that. Literally all James said during the time they sat in the train was about Lily Evans. Sirius had fallen asleep after about an hour or so, right there next to Remus, head resting on his shoulder. Remus' heart had been bounding weirly hard trough the time the boy was asleep, but still he didn't quite know why.

During those hours, Remus had been trying to read a book. Though his mind seemed to wander off of the story, and get stuck on Sirius' hair or eyes.
Peter, of course, ate during the entire trip, listening to James' nonsense. Though actually the short, chubby boy didn't listen a word, and fully focused on stuffing the sweets down his throat.

It was different from the years before. It was colder. Not as in the weather was a bit more chilly, but in their hearts. There was no joy, at least as much as before. It had been replaced with worry and fear.

...

When the train finally stopped, the sky had turned dark. Remus gently woke up Sirius, who'd normally be cursing about the lack of sleep he'd be suffering from the following months, but instead of that he was silent. Too silent.
Remus' heart felt heavier by the minute, he was afraid that the long haired boy would stay cold and distant like that, afraid that he would never tell them what had happened.
Maybe asking was the right thing to do?
But then again, it could also be the worst.

Sirius wanted to tell them. He really did. But then he knew that the boys would want to make it stop, they would try to make him tell McGonagall or Dumbledore. He didn't want that.

...

All four of them sat in the carriage. All four of them were silent. It made Sirius feel even worse, that his state of mind and the look of his face stopped the others from having fun. The trees moved in the wind, the leaves had started to turn yellow.

Peter was not eating this time, surprisingly. He wanted to save space in his stomach for the feast. James stared into the darkeness, thinking about how wonderful Lily Evans was.
And Remus, the tallest of the boys, stared up into the black sky and the dark gray clouds, worried sick and already anxious about the following full moons. It wouldn't be that bad, but as Sirius always worried about his transformations, now Remus was worried about him worrying because right now that long haired boy had so much bad shit on his plate that one werewolf best friend was just an unnecessary furry little problem.
And Sirius, his mind wandered back inside of the walls of 12 Grimmauld Place, no matter if he wanted it or not. His fathers words echoed inside of his head.

They all sat in silence, but their minds were louder than ever before.
