Constructive Criticism-  (third person/st)

Critics*

*Critics should point out the negative and positives of a story. They should appraise a writer for their strengths. They shouldn't use sharp words that will only encourage a writer to stop posting. Writers have a very difficult job.

* Don't use an insulting tone.  Be patient with a writer.

*Don't use commands 'you need to do this or that' .  If you want to improve the story, then you could add this or that.

*Critics should be ready and willingly to hear harsh reviews on their work.

Writers* (First person)

Some critics try to be helpful by offering advice, but at the end of their review they many manage to leave a few painful jabs.  And, when SO many people are criticizing your work at once, it can be overwhelming! Their are days when I just have to shut off the computer and dis-connect myself from the online world. And they are some days where I just want to delete everything I've ever written and never write again.  Because I know, that I can spend a years a novel and it would never be perfect.

Then their are low moments when I think, my writing is never going to be good enough.  And it sucks when I'm having a low day and I receive a rude constructive comment.

But two things i find helpful

1) In the end, it's my story! If I don't like a comment, I have the power to delete it. If I think the comment  is more hurtful than constructive, then I delete if instantly.  My story= my rules.  [ If a comment bothers you, delete it.  People who try to bring you down are NEVER NEVER WORTH YOUR TIME!

2) *I can could identify more mistakes than any critic could in my own writing. I have two very good eyes and I can think of 200 mistakes! So their is nothing a critic can say that I haven't thought about.

For writers:  You have such more power than you realize. Don't get bottled down by thinking about all of the mistakes. Pick one or two things that you want to improve on!
