Chapter 29
'I want a divorce…’
The words haunted his brain, repeating itself over and over again in a taunting way. A new reminder of how he screwed up yet again with someone else's life because of him.
That was half an hour ago, when both Maddie and Jack had a screaming match because of him and now they're getting a divorce, something he wanted to avoid.
Danny had gotten them separated in two different rooms when Maddie all but began attacking him with her tiny yet forceful hands. Now, she remained locked inside her room until it was almost dinner time, which was in 20 minutes if he recalled.
“Danny?” A gentle voice said bringing him out of his thoughts and broke his gaze away from the fire he had been staring at in the living area of the castle. He was dressed in a grey tunic with black linings followed by some jeans he had left here. Not really high and royal but not as bad to have his mamá tell him to change.
Turning he came face to face with Sam's worried eyes, crinkling at the corners as she furrowed her eyebrows. She was dressed in a lavender dress that reached the floor, gold strings around her waist making it look like a belt. Black designs at the Hem of the dress and finally on top of her head were Vines with purple Lotus flowers decorating them with a few petals falling and getting tangled into her hair, a flower crown fit for a plant princess.
Maybe it was the way he looked or maybe it was because they knew each other for such a long time that he found himself getting a hug from the love of his life. “Oh Danny,” she whispered softly, hugging him tightly, her arms around his neck making her go onto her tippy toes. He had his arms around her waist hugging her just as tightly before resting his head into her neck, closing his eyes and sighing in content once he smelled the vanilla scent she had.
“This isn't your fault,” she said softly, weaving her hands through his hair in a way to relax him, “None of this is your fault love. The choices they make are theirs, not yours to worry about.”
The blue eyed young man only squeezed her gently in response, “No honey,” Sam continued knowing what he meant just by that squeeze, her hand never stopping, “please understand what I and many others have been trying to tell you.”
Slowly, Danny removed his head from her before staring down at her amethyst eyes in slight confusion.
“Don't carry the burdens of others on your shoulders.”
Danny felt his shoulders slump at the phrase that he had heard many times before. “I can't help it,” he murmured softly, eyes sad just at the mere thought of others suffering, “if I don't help..no one else will.”
Sam understood, of course she did, she knew how much Danny was willing to sacrifice to help everyone he could. “Danny, their burdens are theirs. They have issues like every other person, if they need help I know you're willing to help them and I'm proud of you for that but if they don't ask for it then why push?”
Danny turned away from her, knowing this already, “I just want them to be happy. Why do I have to be the one to ruin things for everyone?”
Sam brought his face to meet her, “Danny,” her voice suddenly firm, “you do not ruin things for people. Things happen and we can't change them, if this wasn't meant to happen Clockwork would have warned us days before.”
She took a breath calming herself down before she continued her little speech, “Besides, they will be happy, it just takes time to get there.”
Danny quirked a smile, glad that he had Sam by his side whenever he needed her. Without warning he brought her closer to him, earning a yelp from the girl that she will deny later on and kissed her softly yet urgent which she reciprocated.
