Chapter 34

“I'm sorry Danny,”

Danny only nodded numbly, his Adams apple bobbing as he swallowed the lump in his throat.

Setting his jaw, the teen stepped out of his study with Clockwork. His eyes blank of emotion but inside the poor hero had a whirlwind of thoughts consuming him, something the time ghost knew but couldn't do anything to help.

“It was only a matter of time,” Danny whispered, his voice hoarse and strained. Closing his eyes he counted to ten before he composed himself.

“Danny!”

Both Danny and Clockwork turned their heads to the right where they saw Jack, his face looking downcast and sad with every step he took towards them.

Clockwork regained Danny's attention a bit, only to tell him, “I'll leave you two to talk.”

Danny nodded in gratitude before turning to the orange clad man before him. “Jack, is there something you need?”

Somehow that seemed to bring the man's spirit farther down than what it already was. However, before Jack spoke, another voice interrupted their conversation.

“Danny, is everything alright? We've been looking for you.” Tucker and Sam, now looking more composed than before, both looked at Danny with concern and giving Jack a suspicious glance over.

“I'm fine, Jack just needed to talk to me about something, I'll follow in a bit-”

“No!”

Danny raised an eyebrow, confused at the sudden and quick response from Jack, who seemed embarrassed now for his outburst. “I mean, I would like to talk to all three of you actually.”

The trio glanced quickly at one another before nodding, “Alright, uh, follow me Jack we can talk in my bedroom.”

“But your study is right-” Tucker started but Danny shook his head sharply, eyes hard and blank of emotion. “I need my study to be left alone for a while.”

Tucker and Sam shared a look but didn't argue, thinking that maybe it had to do with Jack being around.

As they made their way through several hallways, Jack felt like a prisoner. Tucker was at the end with him while Sam and Danny were in the front, holding hands.

It was then that he noticed their rings both on their left hands, sending another wave of nausea and guilt through him, knowing that his son was a man that was soon to be married. He never had a chance to have a talk with him about proposing or any of the sort like a father should have with their son.

God, he felt like throwing up.

Ahead of them Danny was whispering to Sam, “Are you sure you're okay?” He was worried, he wanted to make sure she was fine and if there was anything he can do to help.

“I'm fine Danny, I'm a big girl, I can handle this. Today is your day, I want you to enjoy it as much as you can.” Danny smiled softly but there was something that Sam couldn't quite figure out. Something that made her worry for him because she's always been able to read him when somethings wrong.

Now she can't.

“ I'm always enjoying myself whenever I'm with you and anyone else in my family.” And it was the way he said it that somehow eased her worries a bit.

Finally arriving to Danny's bedroom, the teen hero let Jack and his friends through before letting himself in.

The room itself looked like a suite that a royal person should have. A queen sized bed was in the far right of the room, four posts on each corner with a dark blue comforter on the bed. A small white couch at the foot of the bed was quickly taken over by Tucker, who made himself comfortable by spreading his whole body on the poor couch.
