Chapter Twenty-Eight: It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas.

Jessica Washington

I wake up early the next morning, as I can hear Ashley downstairs with Rachel. Soon later, there is a light knock at the door. I sit up in bed and tell the person to come in, and I see River stood in the doorway with two coffees in his hands. He must have only just woken up himself, as he's still wearing a black t-shirt and grey sweatpants.

"I don't know how you take your coffee, but good morning," River says, and I raise an eyebrow.

"Surely I should be making you coffee?" I question, and River rolls his eyes, kicking the door shut behind him and walking into the room, handing me a coffee.

"You're the guest," River shrugs, sitting down opposite me on the bed.

"Well thanks," I say, gratefully.

"Have you got any plans for today?" River asks, curiously. I shake my head in response and River grins.

"Good, you can help me put up the Christmas lights outside," River grins, and I nod.

"Sure, sounds fun," I reply, honestly. I love Christmas, everyone does. I prefer the days leading up to it than the actual day, though. I love seeing all the Christmas decorations out and everyone seems to be really cheerful. Especially the children, they're always really excited. The parents maybe not so much, since I'm sure it leaves a bit dent in their bank account.

"It is, to start with, until you hear Jingle Bells for the billionth time," River replies, and I smile, taking a sip of my coffee.

"Really? I prefer the songs on Michael Bublé album, my mum used to always have that album on repeat. Maybe because she liked the songs, maybe because she fancied him, I don't know. Either way, they've become my favourite Christmas songs," I reply, remembering the many times I've heard that album on repeat. My mum would dance around the house while hoovering the floor to all the tracks on that album, even Ave Maria. The house was always decorated over the top for Christmas, something I doubt will happen this year.

"My favourite Christmas song is Last Christmas," River informs me, finishing his coffee.

"That's a good one, mine is All I Want For Christmas Is You," I reply, and River nods, smiling.

"Yeah, I like that one too. Have you finished your coffee?" River asks, and I nod, handing him the empty cup.

"I'll let you get up then, there are towels in the bathroom, you're welcome to use one of those. Do you have enough clothes?" River asks, and I nod.

"Yeah, thanks," I reply, before River leaves the room. I take out some clothes to wear out of the drawer and walk into the bathroom, locking the door. I have a quick shower, before grabbing one of the towels and getting dry. I change into the clothes I brought, a pair of dark blue jeans and a grey sweater.

Then I go back to the spare room, taking my phone off of the desk and heading downstairs, where Ashley is sat at the table doing homework while River helps Rachel get the Christmas decorations from the attic.

"What are you doing?" I ask Ashley, curiously.

"Maths, any idea how to do this?" Ashley asks, moving the piece of paper closer to me. I walk over and sit down beside her, reading through the question. It says something about pineapples costing two pounds and melons costing three pounds, and asks if Colin can afford to buy three melons and six pineapples with fifteen pounds.
