Chapter Fifty: Give Her A Chance.

Jessica Washington

Sure enough, I find myself at Bella's house early on Saturday morning along with Olivia, Ava and Harriet. Bella's room is really pretty, with white walls and pictures hanging around the room in various places, almost explaining her life in pictures.

"Are you nearly ready to go, Harriet?" Bella asks, since Harriet has been doing her makeup for at least twenty minutes now.

"Yes, I'm ready," Harriet replies, moving away from the mirror to grab her bag. And then we leave to get a bus down to the shopping centre.

The awkward tension between everyone is covered by Harriet's rambling, which fills the silence completely so nothing feels odd between any of us. I mean, I only just started getting along with Bella (ignoring how she was apparently chatting up River the other day), so I doubt the time to become friends with Harriet is anywhere near, but anything can happen.

We arrive at the shopping centre soon later, and Harriet is quick to drag us into the first clothes shop we reach. Harriet starts to look at their shortest dresses, as does Bella, while Olivia, Ava and I look at the shoes. I wonder how people can wear some of these, their feet will practically be en pointe while wearing some of the higher heels. And that sounds painful to me, considering ballet is definitely one of my weakest points. Ava finds a pair of shoes she likes and purchases them, but Olivia and I leave empty handed, as does Bella and Harriet.

We go round several shops, following the same scenario until we all eventually have dresses. Olivia ended up choosing mine due to my indecisiveness, so it's her fault if I end up looking stupid. After eventually finishing the shopping, we find somewhere nice to eat lunch, before we go to a food shop and Harriet and Bella buy some alcohol, while Ava, Olivia and I buy some smaller snacks for the party. Once we have bought everything we need, we get the bus back to Bella's, where we start setting everything up for the party, even though it is ages since the party is due to start. Then we settle down on the sofa to watch a film, as I'm not sure that we could actually hold a conversation for the hours we have remaining until it starts.

However, the time to start getting ready does arrive so I get changed into the dress that Olivia chose. It's a nice dress, to be fair. The straps of the dress are off the shoulder and the top is fairly tight, although it flows out into a loose skater skirt at the waist down to around mid-thigh. I wear this with a plain black pair of heels, so at least I won't stand out too much unless I accidentally flash someone, which would be a tragedy. Olivia is wearing the tightest red dress I have ever seen in my life, while Harriet is wearing a blue dress similar to Olivia's. Bella is wearing a grey dress which is a similar style to mine, and Ava's dress is white and tight.

Harriet surprisingly helps me with my hair and makeup, since she actually finishes getting ready first, which isn't what I was expecting considering that she took ages to get ready this morning, And when she has finished, I hardly recognise myself, as I'm not used to seeing myself wearing this much makeup.

"Red lipstick suits you," Harriet comments as she finishes my makeup.

"Thanks," I reply, slightly cautiously. Harriet smiles, before she grabs my hand and drags me downstairs, asking me to help her set up a music playlist. We eventually manage to compile a long list of songs which are popular right now or are good dance songs, and then suddenly people are arriving.
