Chapter Thirty-Eight: Opposites Attract.

Jessica Washington

Valentine's Day arrives, the day that I've decided to have my date with River on. But first, I have to go to school. I walk into school to where Olivia and Tyler are stood by my locker having a charming kissing session. I roll my eyes, walking over and hitting Tyler round the back of the head with my History book.

"Can you kiss in front of someone else's locker?" I request, and Tyler grins, while Olivia rolls her eyes.

"We're spreading the romantic atmosphere," Olivia replies, rolling her eyes. I frown in disbelief, before pushing past them to open my locker. I swap my History book for my English Literature book, before I leave them to their kissing, going to my English Literature class early.

I'm surprised when I see that River is already sat in there. River looks up when I walk in and smiles, as I sit down beside him.

"Hi, how are you?" I ask, smiling brightly.

"I'm good thanks, looking forward to tonight. How about you?" River replies, and I roll my eyes, smiling.

"Not going to lie, I wouldn't hype it up too much. But yeah, I'm good," I tell him, and River shakes his head.

"Well, I'm still looking forward to it," River tells me, and I bite my lip, nervously. It's only simple, so I'm hoping that he doesn't hype it up too much, otherwise he's in for a disappointment.

The lesson starts, so I turn my attention away from River and focus on the lesson, making notes as the lesson goes on.

The day passes surprisingly quickly, so I head home to get ready to go out later.

"Jess, what should I be wearing?" River shouts through his window.

"Something warm, casual," I reply, and River nods, before closing his window to get ready. There are still two hours left until the date actually starts, but I have to set some things up before we go. I get dressed into some black, high-waisted, skinny jeans and a plain, white t-shirt with my light blue, oversized, denim jacket over the top to keep warm. I leave my hair loose down my back and wear my glasses for once, before sliding on my black boots and heading downstairs. I told to meet me there, as I told him that I had left the address in his car. I haven't done this yet, but Rachel has given me his keys so I can do this now. I unlock River's car and type the address into the Sat Nav in his car, before getting out his car and locking the car again, putting River's keys through his letter box. Then I grab the things from my house that I need and get a bus to a small place on the outside of town where I'm planning on having the date.

There's a place on the outside of town where you can walk up to the top of this hill and look out across the town. It's where my mum came when she went on her first date with my dad, so I thought that I would continue the tradition.

I walk up the hill and when I reach the top, I set down the picnic blanket. I've also brought some other blankets as well because the weather is still quite cold, as it is February. I've also brought some food for us to eat, and then I've found some cute oil lamps which are lighting up where we will be sat. Now I just have to wait for River to get here.

This is probably the most nervous I've been in a while. The whole point of this date was to talk about us, but what if the result of this talk isn't what I want? I mean, Im pretty sure that right now we are both on the same page, but it's still a page of unclear writing and confusion.

Eventually, I hear the sound of a car slowly pulling up at the bottom of the hill in the distance. The engine turns off and I hear a car door slam shut.
