Chapter Thirty-Six: Life Is Like A Box Of Chocolates.

The week of school passes quickly and the weekend soon arrives. I didn't tell Olivia that River and I kissed, and I'm assuming that River hasn't told anyone either. River and I just acted like everything was normal all week, which has been difficult because all I can think of is that the boy that I like actually likes me too.
It's Olivia's birthday, and I'm currently sat in my room wrapping up her present. I eventually decided to just get her a nice necklace and bracelet that I found online. It's probably the most expensive birthday present that I have ever bought, so hopefully she likes it.
I haven't really dressed up for Olivia's birthday, just wearing a pair of black skinny jeans and a red sweater. I've ditched my contact lenses and put on my glasses instead because my eyes are starting to hurt a bit after my failed attempt at taking my contact lenses out last night. My hair just falls messily down my back. What an effort I have made for my best friend's birthday.
I wonder which is worse, my best friend dating my ex or me dating my ex's best friend - not that that has happened. Mine is probably worse.
When I arrive at the cinema, Olivia, Tyler and Olivia's three friends from another school - Harriet, Summer and Johnny. Johnny and Summer were dating last time I saw them, but now they're stood apart with a fair bit of distance between them, so I'm assuming it didn't last. I'm guessing that Summer dumped Johnny, as I feel like Johnny must have felt suffocating for her.
"Happy birthday, Olivia!" I smile, and Olivia grins, rushing over to me and jumping onto me, so I reluctantly have to catch her legs which wrap around my waist to stop her from falling. I groan at the sudden increase in weight, not that Olivia is fat, she's the opposite, I'm just weak. Olivia laughs mischievously, as she jumps out of my arms and gracefully onto the floor.
"Thank you," Olivia laughs, as I hand her the presents that I had just wrapped earlier. Olivia shoves it into the gift bag in her hand, before Bella, Ava, Tom and Marcus walk in. Trust River to turn up last. They all greet Olivia who smiles and takes her presents, before River finally arrives. River saunters in as if he's not late at all and hands Olivia her present, wishing her happy birthday.
"How are things, Jess?" Johnny asks me, moving closer to me to talk to me while River talks to Tyler.
"Things are great, how about you?" I reply, placing a bright smile on my face. Johnny always made me feel a bit uncomfortable, I don't know why. He and Olivia have been friends for years, but I've never been so sure about him. He has always gone out of his way to speak to me, and when I'm not speaking to him he's staring at me, which is why whenever I know he's going to be there my fashion sense goes from bad to appalling, so he doesn't have anything to look at.
"Things are alright. As you might be able to tell, Summer dumped me," Johnny informs me, his smile dropping. So I was right, Summer did dump him. I can probably guess why.
"Oh, I'm sorry," I apologise, even though I honestly couldn't care less, but I don't know what else to say.
"It's okay. She never gave me a reason, though. She only broke up with me last week and just never told me why," Johnny sighs, clearly upset, heartbroken, poor lad. Well, I could give him a few ideas why, but I doubt he wants these tips from me.
