Chapter Forty-Four: New York, New York.

I wake up the next morning to the amazing smell of coffee. When I open my eyes, I see River stood in the doorway with a tray.
"I thought that we could start the day with breakfast in bed," River grins, sitting down beside me and putting the tray between us. On the tray are two plates, each with a pain au chocolat on them. There is also a bowl of chocolate covered strawberries, as well as a large bowl of cereal.
"Are you trying to make me fat?" I ask, raising an eyebrow. River chuckles, shaking his head.
"No," River replies, handing me one of the plates with a pain au chocolat on. I haven't had these in ages, and the taste reminds me of eating them with my family, usually near Christmas when it was acceptable to almost double your body weight. Well, maybe not acceptable, but more acceptable than it would be in July, when everyone spends ages wasting their time getting their 'bikini bodies' ready for a Summer of sunbathing.
"Do you want some strawberries?" River asks, once I have finished my pain au chocolat.
"Sure," I reply, as he takes the bowl and takes one out, handing it to me. I'd like to personally thank the person who thought that chocolate would be good with strawberries because they're one of the most delicious creations I've ever tasted. River takes one for himself as well, and I laugh at his expression when he eats it. After a few more strawberries, I stand up to get ready to leave. I'm completely full up, so I don't even attempt any of the cereal.
"I'll meet you downstairs," River tells me, before he leaves the room. I have a quick shower, before getting dressed. I wear plain black high waisted jeans and a cropped grey jumper, as River said that this was casual. I brush my hair and put on a little makeup, before sliding on a pair of white plimsoles and heading downstairs, where River is waiting.
"Ready to go?" River asks, and I nod, smiling excitedly. River smiles, before taking my hand, stepping into the lift. We leave the building once we arrive at the bottom floor and we start walking down the street. It takes a while to get there, and then we come to a stop outside the Empire State Building. River smiles when he sees my excited expression, before we walk inside and River buys the tickets, before we start heading up to the observatory.
"I know that it would have looked better in the evening or at night, but I made plans for tonight so we couldn't, sorry," River apologises, and I raise an eyebrow.
"It's the Empire State Building, I don't care what time we go up it, I'd be just as excited if it was pouring down with rain. What's not to like?" I assure River, who smiles. We reach the observatory and look around the information blocks which say about the history of the building. Then we head outside to where you can see the whole of New York.
"Wow," I sigh, looking down on New York City. The whole city seems small looking at it from up here, although I know that in reality, it's definitely a big city. That's why it's called the Big Apple, isn't it? But how can something so big look so small?
"Wow, indeed," River replies, looking down for himself. Although the beautiful city is almost ruined by the amount of pollution floating out of the city, seeing the tall skyscrapers and the busy people from all the way up here makes it worth it.
"Thank you so much for this," I thank River, who smiles.
"No need to thank me," River assures me, before he starts to point out various landmarks to me that we can see from where we are stood. I look up at River while he does this, seeing that he is concentrating on what he is doing, entirely focused on the city. And he looks sweet, making me smile. I follow his eyes down to her landmarks he's pointing out, seeing all the places that make New York, well, New York.
