Chapter Thirty-Four: You Look Stunning.
♡ Jessica Washington ♡
"Would you like a drink?" River calls from his kitchen, as I help Ashley take Monopoly out of the box to set up. Rachel has gone out for the weekend with her friend, so River is looking after Ashley. River woke me up early this morning and asked if I wanted to spend the weekend with them, so of course I agreed. Ashley then made the horrible decision to play Monopoly, which will probably take all day.
"Yes please!" I call back, as I start to split up the money. River returns a few minutes later with a glass of orange juice for Ashley, and two coffees, one for me and one for him.
River is looking extremely good today, I'll admit. He doesn't seem to have put in much of an effort with his clothes, just wearing an oversized khaki green hoodie and black skinny jeans. His hair is pushed out of his face, but isn't gelled, so it keeps falling over his forehead.
"Thank you," I smile gratefully, as River sits down opposite me on the floor. I can already tell that my back is going to ache so badly after this, since we're all sat on the floor around the board game, which is on the floor in front of us. We each get our counters out of the box, before we start the game, rolling the dice. Ashley goes first because she is the youngest, then I go, then River.
"I'm so bad at this game," I groan in complaint, and River chuckles, as I move my counter into jail for the fourth time. We've been playing for an hour, and I only own two stations because I'm going to jail nearly every three turns. Ashley is winning, as she has an evil smirk across her face as she places hotels on the most expensive places on the board. River is doing pretty well himself, having a death row on one half of the board full of hotels.
"Just pay to get out of jail," River says, as he rolls the dice for his turn. I roll my eyes at this, glancing down at the little amount of money I have.
"I can't afford it, dumbass," I reply, and River laughs, moving his counter across the board. Ashley then takes her go, earning more money as she passes to. Smug bitch. I roll the dice for my turn, and roll a double, meaning that I get out of jail. Then River takes his turn, and groans loudly when he lands on the most expensive place on the board. He hands Ashley the majority of his money, before Ashley smirks and rolls the dice for her turn. Her smirk is the same as her brother's, something she must have learned off of River or maybe Rachel or her dad. Who knows.
"Look who's poor now," I smirk, seeing how poor River is now. Unfortunately, as I do this, I roll the dice and land on Chance. I sigh, picking up the card and seeing that I also have to advance to the most expensive place on the board.
"Look who's poor now," River mimics in a high pitched voice.
"Well, I'm bankrupt," I say, losing the game. River chuckles, before they continue the game between them. I make everyone a drink while they're playing, and then I sit down and watch to see who wins.
Unsurprisingly, around an hour later, Ashley wins with a triumph. She stands up and cheers, throwing all her money around like she's in one of those rap music videos. I roll my eyes, and River shakes his head in amusement.
"Well, losers have to tidy up," Ashley grins, before she sits down on the sofa and starts flicking through the channels, watching us clear up all the money she has just scattered everywhere.
