I look at this old place
Where once our bonds stood.
This is the place we used to be
A time of such joy and pleasure.
Full of heady thrills and discoveries
That we took to heart,
We saw a trace of ourselves
In our very different places.
We sought things to unite us,
To bring us close,
Ignoring the obvious fact
The fork in the path
We couldn't see.
Little by little we found
Details impossible to understand.
The consequences of which
Would hit us very soon.
I don't know if you knew,
Possibly you didn't know too,
But the details turned into errors
By then it couldn't be rectified.
The insouciance we had in the start
Could no longer hold us together,
No more progress I saw in you,
There was only a gaping chasm.
Three little errors,
That was all it took.
It may be worth nothing to you,
But the results were grave to me.
I wanted to keep us together,
I wished I brought it to you sooner
But you were too deep in it,
The rot is now a part of you.
I couldn't see past it anymore,
I couldn't keep living with your pain.
The differences became insurmountable
And so I was left with a drastic choice.
I decided to give you the boot,
For being with you
Could no longer be justified.
The bond we had was burnt to ashes
And all that was left was scorched earth.
I know the poison of deceit left in you
And I'll be dead long before
You could even fathom forgiving me.
So I won't ask for it,
I will not beg.
I only hope one day you'll realise
Why I had to do it.
Nowadays you are far away.
And somewhere in your heart
The fig tree of hatred grows
Where your memory of me was.
But I have kept echoes of our bond
For posterity's sake
And lessons to be learned.
It is what it is,
And so the chips remained where they fell.
I wrote this after thinking of someone from my past. Don't worry, it's just something I needed to get off my chest. Thanks and much love.
