Oh, you sodden little horse,
You have made it yet again!
You still make it work
And make the tough work look easy!
The times have not been terribly kind
But still you carry on, brave thing!
You have lost your charm
And your patina has dulled so
That no longer shows the colors you began
But here you are, still going strong.
Taken the battering and the beatings
That nature and life can hurl at you
And still you carry on, like a farm horse!
Through the shine and the rain,
Through floods and mud,
Through dust and sand,
You have thread through them all,
And here you are! As loyal and sturdy as ever.
You are no soldier boot
But still you keep soldiering on,
As if the other compatriots can do it better than you.
But you do not shout, for you are humble.
You walk on, change never wearing you down.
Still you go, and still you serve.
A pair of good old loafers I can keep.
