*ANNA'S POV*
I ran into my Biology class right as the bell rang. I stood still near the door, unsure of what to do or where to sit. I saw my long-distance boyfriend, Alexander Emmit, sitting across the room. He smirked and patted his lap when he saw me. I held back tears as memories of us rose up, threatening to choke me. I saw everything. Every time he hit me, every time he hurt me, every time he tried to kill me. He was abusive. And I couldn't escape. The teacher finally took notice of me. "Everyone! We have a new student. She's from Ireland and her name is Anna Murphy. Anna, why don't you tell the class something about yourself?" I took a deep breath and stood at the front of the class, nervously playing with my sweater.
"Hi... I'm Anna, I'm from Cork, Ireland, and..." And you're worthless. "I like drawing." Even though you're no good. "I have three brothers and three sisters back home." They all hate you though. They're just pretending to like you. Nobody could love you. "I am straight and do have a boyfriend." Who's abusive and hits you, but you deserve it anyway. "And I'm really excited to be joining this school." Why? So you can fail because you're stupid? I looked to the teacher, silently telling my depression to leave me alone.
"Ok, well, welcome Anna. We're happy to have you here at Redwing High and you may take your seat. You'll be sitting next to Alexander. Alexander, raise your hand." My abusive boyfriend raised his hand proudly and I reluctantly took my seat next to him, my heart pounding in fear. I felt his hand caress my hair softly, then he grabbed on tightly and pulled. I bit back a scream as he gripped my arm and pressed hard on my fresh cuts.
"You took too long getting here. You'll pay after class." He released me and my wish for class to end became a wish for class to last forever.
