*ELI'S POV*
I awoke to the sound of a gunshot echoing throughout the hospital. The doctors didn't even glance at me; they just ran towards the sound. I carefully removed the machines hooked up to me, pulled myself to my feet, and began heading towards the sound as well. I trudged down the hall, slightly groggy still, as doctors and nurses zipped past me. Eventually, I made it to the room they were all surrounding. What I saw shocked me. Anna was sitting on the floor, hugging her knees to her chest, sobbing. Alex was laying on the floor near her. Blood was pouring out of the single gunshot wound in his head. The gun lay discarded next to Anna, emptied. Everyone was murmuring amongst themselves, wondering what had happened. I had a pretty strong feeling I knew. I stepped into the room, the medical personnel clearing a path for me. Slowly and cautiously, I approached Anna and crouched next to her, even though my head was still spinning a bit. "Anna?" I asked softly, not wanting to scare her. "Hey, it's me. It's Eli. You're okay. You're safe. I'm here now." She looked up, her blue eyes filled with tears and hope.
"E-Eli?" I smiled and nodded. She flung herself into my arms, knocking me back, but clinging to me desperately. I wrapped one arm around her waist and the other around her shoulders, cradling her head to my chest. "I-I thought-t-t he-he killed yo-u," she choked out through sobs. A grin spread across my face.
"You're not getting rid of me that easily. Nobody tears me away from the ones I care about. While they're still breathing, I am too, to protect them." She pulled away and stared at me.
"You... care about-out me?" I nodded.
"Of course I do, Anna. You're a friend. Besides, you're an amazing, beautiful girl, so why wouldn't I?" She looked down.
"But I'm worthless..." I grabbed her face with both hands and made her look at me.
"Anna Murphy, you are not worthless. The only person who believed that is gone now. You're not worthless, you're amazing and I love you."
"What?" I ran over the sentence in my mind when the realization of what I'd just said hit me.
Fuck.
