When Worlds Collide

Chapter 39

*ANNA'S POV*

I put my hand on Eli's shoulder in a feeble attempt at comfort. "Ok, Eli, calm down. Just take deep breaths and think. Ok?" He shrugged my hand off of him and began pacing in front of me.

"Calm down? Calm down?! How the hell am I supposed to calm down when my mother has just been kidnapped?! My father most likely took her, and you saw how pissed he was to find out that she was pregnant! What if he hurts her or kills the child?" I picked up my phone.

"Eli, please, just try to relax. I'm going to call the police, ok? They deal with this stuff all the time. We need to just think back to the last time and place each of us saw your mom. Everything will be ok, you'll see." I called the police and explained the situation.

A few minutes later, Eli and I were sitting on the couch, talking to a police officer. He turned to Eli. "So, when did you last see her?" Eli sighed and I gripped his hand to comfort him.

"About 20 minutes ago. I wasn't gone long, I'd just run out after Anna and forgot to close the door... Oh fuck... Is it my fault she's missing?! If I had stayed, would she still be here?" The cop shook his head.

"This is nobody's fault except for whoever took her. And yes, if you had stayed, maybe she'd still be here. But maybe you would've gotten taken too, or something could've happened to your girlfriend. You've made sure two lives are safe; your own and Anna's. We'll make sure your mother returns safely as well. Just leave this to us, ok?" I nodded as we stood and shook hands. The police left with all of their notes and equipment, leaving Eli and I alone in the house.

After a minute of silence, Eli spoke. "I don't trust what they're doing, if they're even doing anything. We're going to my father's house to get my mom back." He grabbed his keys off the table and walked out the door.
