"WELCOME TO YOUR NEW home. It's not as extravagant as you might expect, but it's better than being in a cage, right?" I tell Hunter—my new dog—as I closed the door behind us. I was about to remove his leash for him, but then I noticed the glass shards on the floor and the scattered empty cans of beer in the living room. I completely forgot that I went on to drink my worries away last night, which was the reason why I'm now bringing a dog home out of the blue.

"Sorry, just wait right here," I say as I tied the leash on the doorknob first, immediately cleaning up the mess like Hunter was some kind of guest.

Hunter quietly sat in front of the door and just looked around the area, probably familiarising himself with his new territory.

When everything was cleaned up, I wiped the sweat on my forehead and finally removed his leash. Right after, I kneeled in front of him and removed his leash for him. The moment he got out of his leash, Hunter immediately ran and started sniffing every single thing in my apartment.

While Hunter was busy 'touring' his new home, I took the documents that I got from the association and hid them in one of my storage cabinets. While I was doing so, someone suddenly knocks on my door. I hurriedly closed the drawers and ran to the door to open it, but as soon as I opened the door, I was surprised to see that no one was there.

"What in the..." I looked around the hall yet no one could be found, but when I was about to step out, I suddenly kicked something. It was a box that had a familiar logo.

"Wait, was this the package that Christine mentioned? That was fast," I say as I grabbed the box and brought it inside. I went to the living room and placed the heavy box on top of the table so I could open it. Inside the box were all sorts of dog supplies. There were some dog food, medicine, shampoo, bowls, chew toys, and other items that would help a first-time dog owner like me.

I took everything out so I could arrange them, but at the bottom of the box, I was surprised to see the black and gold card from the association. I thought I didn't need it anymore, but the fact that they gave it back to me might mean that I'd still need it in the future, so I guess I'll hide it for now.

"Hunter! Look at this! The association gifted you with so many things!" I shout as I rummage through the cute clothes that were inside the box too. I then saw a red collar that has a paw print on it, so I immediately took it out of the box so I could put it on Hunter.

"Hunter? Where are you?" I asked as I looked around the apartment. When I arrived at my bedroom, I finally saw Hunter rubbing his entire body on my bed.

"Looks like he found his territory," I told myself as I approached him.

Hunter looks at me, and I smiled at him and showed him the collar. I thought he was going to be okay with it, but then Hunter started barking, almost like he was telling me that he didn't like it.

"You don't want to wear it?" I ask, and Hunter just continued barking.

I sighed and went back to the box in the living room to put the collar away. I guess he didn't like the collar. Maybe I should buy something else? Maybe the color red was too much for him.

"That's a lot of new stuff. I guess it's better since the apartment felt empty when Todd left," I say as I sat on the couch, instantly making me see the empty wall where the television was supposed to be.

During times like these, I'd usually be sitting on the floor, working on an article, while Todd sat behind me on the couch. I'd lean my head on his thighs and sometimes fall asleep, and whenever I wake up, I'd be lying on the couch, his arms around me while he continued watching his favorite football game.
