NOTE: This is a .5 chapter, which means that it is a shorter chapter that can be from a different POV, it could have happened in the past, or is usually not connected (but is related) to the main storyline. This was already mentioned in the prologue so don't worry, you're not skipping a chapter. You may or may not read this part. It's up to you.

THE LIGHT COMING FROM outside my bedroom window was directly shining on my face as I opened my eyes. Something warm and fluffy was cuddled up to me, so when I looked at my side, I immediately smiled and petted him.

Hunter slowly looks at me, showing me his beautiful blue eyes that almost made me feel like I was looking at the sea.

"Good morning Hunter," I whisper, hugging him tightly like a teddy bear before pulling away from him so I could stand from the bed.

Ever since my split with Todd, my weird encounter with that creepy guy in a suit who gave me the card, and my unforgettable experience with the Companion's Association who's actually a 'Get a dog for free' kind of association, my life has been less boring than before.

The apartment has become a mess, which was something that would usually bother me, but at the same time, felt comforting because I knew that someone else was finally living with me too. It's now dominated by dog-related items, so Hunter basically owns my apartment now.

"The weather looks good. It's a perfect time to go on a jog," I say, staring out the window before looking back at Hunter. "Hey buddy, wake up, we're going on our morning jog," I then tell him.

Hunter, who was sleeping again, opens his eyes and looks at me for the second time, but he doesn't stand like he usually does and starts whimpering instead.

"Hey, is everything alright? Are you sick?" I ask, checking his nose if it's wet. When it looked like Hunter was fine, I smiled and nodded my head in understanding. "Look like you just don't want to go out. That's alright, it's my day off anyway so we could just enjoy this lazy morning together," I say, patting his head like usual, and Hunter licks my hand like he was thanking me.

"I'll make our breakfast instead. You can enjoy your nap."

I lowered the AC a little and went out of my bedroom to head to the kitchen, but then I spot the paper bag in the living room. I furrowed my brows in confusion, but then I remembered what it actually was for, so I quickly went to the paper bag and opened it up. As soon as I saw what was inside, a smile immediately appeared on my face.

It was a black leather material that had the words Hunter engraved on it and a silver buckle. I had it custom-made so it took a while to arrive here. I also wanted to add a bell on it, but I imagined Hunter not getting some sleep and so he'd just silently walk around the apartment with that thing on. I'd rather not hear a bell in the middle of the night, it would be fuckin' scary.

"This was a bit more expensive than a regular collar, but I guess it's fine. I have money to spend anyway."

I walked back to the bedroom where Hunter was. I approached the bed and sat on the edge of it before gently putting the collar on him, adjusting it so it wouldn't be too tight on him. "There," I whisper, and Hunter instantly opened his eyes, almost making me flinch.

"Oops, sorry. I didn't mean to wake you," I tell him, and Hunter yawned and slowly stood up. I think he felt the unfamiliar object around his neck because he started reaching out to it. It looked like he was trying to remove it too.

"No, I bought it for you," I say, standing from the bed and carrying him up with all my strength as we went to the bathroom mirror so he could see it for himself. "See? Do you like it? I had it custom-made for you," I tell him.

Hunter stares at his reflection for a moment, and then he suddenly licked my face, and I'm only going to assume that it's because he thanked me for it.

"Looks like you do," I say, finally letting go of him. "Well, since you're up now then let me make us breakfast."

I was about to head to the kitchen, but then Hunter bit my shirt and starts pulling me back to the bedroom, surprising me. "W-What are you doing?" I ask, and Hunter lets go and run back to the bedroom. I chuckled and followed behind him, and when I got there, I saw him lying on the bed again.

"You still want to go back to sleep?" I ask him, and Hunter barked as an answer.

"If that's what you want then I'll just eat on my own," I say, but Hunter suddenly ran towards me, biting on my shirt and pulling me again towards the bed.

"Aright! I'll join you, okay? Calm down boy," I say, and Hunter happily runs back to the bed, his tail wagging as if he's waiting for me. I laughed at the way he was acting and went back to the bed as he wanted, and Hunter automatically snuggled beside me, almost making me die from his cuteness.

"I'm spoiling you too much aren't I?" I ask, and Hunter licks my face, agreeing to my statement a hundred percent.

Well, I guess I'll just have to get used to these lazy days from now on.
