"I-I'M SORRY...I DIDN'T...I didn't mean to hit their car. I didn't know that would happen," Damien says as tears continued to pour out of his eyes.
"I don't understand," I tried to say, furrowing my brows in confusion as my chest felt tight.
"Baby please forgive me. I s-swear, it was all an accident. I didn't mean to do it," he continued to say. My mind couldn't comprehend what Damien was trying to explain. I was doing my best to understand it, but for some reason, my brain couldn't function properly, almost like it purposely didn't want to understand it.
"Damien...what did you—"
Damien quickly cuts me off and finally reveals "I'm sorry...I didn't mean to kill your parents."
My body freezes in an instant as his words echo inside my head. I didn't mean to kill your parents. Those words were something that I never thought I'd hear him say. Out of everything, this was the last thing I wanted to hear from him.
But as I let his words sink in, I ended up laughing at myself.
"No you didn't," I replied.
Damien looks at me and tries his best to keep his eyes locked on me. Despite what he was saying and how he was reacting to it, he still tried to calm me down as best as he could.
"I'm sorry," he tells me again, and at that moment, I realized that Damien was seriously telling me the truth. All this time, the reason why he was so afraid...was because of this. It was because he killed my parents, and the past we shared was because of this accident.
My heart was beating fast, and I felt like I was moments away from fainting, but I still couldn't say a thing. I just stood there, staring at him while tears streamed down my eyes.
Damien was about to say something, but Anderson stops him and moves closer to me again. While my body was frozen in place, Anderson touches my chin and tilts it up so I could directly look into his eyes. "You look so shocked. I know, right? The man you love and trust...was the reason why you became an orphan. How terrible the world is."
"Let go of him!" Damien shouts, and Anderson could only laugh.
"No need to be so mad now," Anderson tells him before walking back to where the suitcase was.
Damien and I looked back at each other again, but when I saw the cold blue eyes that I have grown to be familiar with, I couldn't help but look away.
"Day, please say something," he says, but I couldn't even open my mouth. Everything happened way too fast. The perfect life I had in my head just vanished in an instant, and all I'm left with is sadness and confusion. I wasn't even angry even though I knew that I had every right to be angry.
This was the man who had taken my parents away from me.
This was the man who gently held onto me, but at the same time, it was the same hands that could have killed my family too.
This was the man I love.
Damien saved me and protected me, but at the same time...
"Day, your dear pet is talking to you. You have to at least respond," Anderson then tells me before grabbing the suitcase from one of his men and walking towards the exit. "Well, it doesn't really matter to me anymore. I have the Will, and you guys can just work things out among yourselves, isn't that a win-win situation?" Anderson says as he was about to leave with the rest of the members of the association.
