TODAY WAS MY DAY off, but for the first time since I met Hunter, I was alone at the apartment with nothing to do. Hunter went to my company to meet the chairman, which I was still jealous about. I told him that I could go with him, but Hunter insisted that I stay here and enjoy my day off.
As you may already know, I'm not the type to enjoy myself. I don't have friends to go out with, nor any family to visit, so during my days off, all I do is work.
Earlier, I attended an online meeting with the department heads. I wasn't really required to, but since I didn't have anything else to do, I attended it anyway.
Thanks to our new face and endorser, Mr. Noah Price, the company planned a ton of projects for him. I'm honestly surprised that Hunter's willing to participate despite being so secretive with me, but if that's what he wants to do, then I won't stop him.
"I already reviewed the drafts and checked the cover. I guess that's it for today," I tell myself as I closed my laptop. I then looked at my watch and realized that it was already 6:34 PM and Hunter still hasn't gone back. Wait, did something happen to him? Should I have really gone out with him as I told him earlier?
No, Day, you gotta relax. This is Hunter we're talking about. He might have been some kind of dog a few weeks ago, but he's a grown-ass man now. I'm pretty sure he's fine.
"I should just go to the grocery store and buy some ingredients for our dinner," I tell myself instead, standing from the floor and taking my coat so I could get ready to head out.
One of the reasons why I decided to buy this specific apartment is because it's in the center of the city, which means that it's close to places like the hospital, restaurants, and grocery stores. So I left my car keys at home and walked my way to the groceries.
Since it was a weekday, the store wasn't as crowded as usual. I should be able to buy all the things I need in peace and head back home.
"Day?" A voice calls out just as soon as I said that. Apparently, the world just finds pleasure in proving me wrong.
I took a deep breath, gripped the basket that I was holding, and turned to look at the person who called me. For a moment I thought it would be someone from the company who also had the same day off as I do, but when I turned back around, my eyes instantly widened in shock.
"Todd!?"
Todd Cooper, the last person I want to see, approaches me with a shy smile. "Looks like we keep bumping into each other," he says, stopping right in front of me.
"Well, it's a small city after all," I answer while awkwardly scratching the back of my head. How should I excuse myself? Do I just say that I'm in a hurry and I can't talk to him right now? Why does he keep on talking to me anyway? He's the one who broke up with me.
"You preparing dinner?" He asks, and I nod my head as an answer.
If I don't say anything, Todd would probably sense that I'm not in the mood to be conversing with anyone right now, but this mother fucker continues to talk anyway, grabbing every chance he could get to milk this dying conversation.
"You making dinner for that Noah guy too?" He then asks, surprising me this time because I wasn't expecting him to open it up.
"And why do you care?" I then ask him, sounding a little too rude than I intended to.
Todd looked flustered and embarrassed, so I sighed and tried to correct myself as I tell him, "I'm not sure what time he's coming home, but I just wanted to cook dinner for us as a kind gesture."
