"W-WAIT, HE HAS IT? Your uncle has the will?" I ask in shock, looking at Victor before looking back at Damien. Damien takes a deep breath and nods his head to confirm it. "Eight years ago, when Hael died, his lawyer gave me the suitcase and told me to hide it with all my life. The only place I could think of that the association knows nothing about is here."
"Don't worry, I don't know the code so I never got to open it," Victor then says, making me widen my eyes in shock.

"When Hael went here sixteen years ago, he told me that he was slowly losing control of the association. He wanted to make things work, especially since he finally took custody of you, but things just didn't go in his favor," Victor explains, surprising me because I didn't expect my uncle to have been here such a long time ago.
I was literally ten years old at that time. I think that was the time I started living with him.
"Why did he come here though?" I finally ask.
Victor glances at Damien, but then he looks back at me and tells me, "You'll know why," he says. "Hopefully very soon."
Damien glares at his uncle but thankfully doesn't say anything, so Victor takes a sip of the stew before standing from his seat. "I'll be right back," he tells us before walking away. As soon as Victor was gone, I quickly looked at Damien and whispered to him, "Babe, the will and testament is just inside a fucking suitcase?"
"That's right. Hael thought that the best place to hide the will is in a suitcase," Damien whispers back.
"Well that's just fucking great," I sarcastically answer, shoving my mouth with stew so I could feel better. I thought it would be in some kind of volt, or maybe in a sealed box at least. But a suitcase? My uncle really is crazy.
"It's a good thing I still kept it," Victor says when he walked back to the dining room. I thought he brought the suitcase with him, but to my surprise, it was actually a key. He walks closer to the table and places the key in front of Damien, surprising him.
"Is that—"
"That's right. That's the key to your old house. The suitcase is in your father's room, and rest assured, it has been safe there for all those years," Victor answers as Damien takes the key to check it. I don't know the reason behind his expression, but I couldn't help but notice the sad smile he gave when he stared at it.
"Thank you, uncle," he says before standing from his seat. "Dane, we should head there now."
"Wait, let me at least finish the food that Lilith prepared for us. You should eat first too. I think that suitcase can wait," I quickly tell him.
"He's right Damien. Finish your food first. I know you both have something important to do, but at least relax while you're here. Show Day around town and introduce him to the locals. I bet they'll be thrilled to meet him," Victor then says, which excited me more than Damien did.
Damien looked like he was about to decline his uncle's suggestion, but when he saw the smile on my face, he sighs and massages his temple. "I guess you're right. Let's finish eating and then I'll show you around."
I thanked Damien as he sat back down in his seat. Victor sat on his chair as well, and the three of us continued eating together. Lilith even brought roasted potatoes to match, which made the meal better. This was the first time I'd tasted something so homey. It didn't just make my stomach full but my heart warm as well.
