I found it strange that all of the foreign Vampires admired me for my power; hungered for power. But everyone was helpless as babies in this situation. I had changed clothes, then returned to the living room to wait with everyone else. I paced the floor, Anna cried on Shawn's shoulder, over on the couch and Nigel impatiently waited by the phone at the desk. We all felt powerless, with nothing to do but wait.
"Can't we go look?" I burst out suddenly.
"Look where?" Nigel asked in a low tone. "They LITERALLY could be anywhere," he sighed. "King Byron has detectives gathering information," he sat back in his chair with a sigh, "Hell, it could be days before we find out anything."
"We should be in England!" Anna said and raised her head up from Shawn's shoulder. She wiped her tears with a tissue, "I'll make the arrangements, if I have to."
"I'm not sure I trust your people anymore," I frowned at her as she stood.
Her gaze leveled on me and she said flatly, "My men died trying to protect us."
"Died?" I whispered.
She nodded, "My men were able to load the two trucks. They sent the first truck that had Nigel and Shawn's coffins. The second truck had my coffin and Allan's coffin," her eyes filled with tears, "The third truck contained Michael's coffin and your coffin. That is when they were attacked." She shrugged, "The driver of the second truck said he did what he thought was best. He drove off, speeding me to safety," she shook her head and touched her nose with the tissue, "but the bandits didn't chase him or go after the first truck."
"Because they had what they wanted," Shawn sighed, "They had Michael and..." he looked up at me, "....they thought they had you."
"What's going to happen to Allan when they realize they have the wrong Vampire?" I asked, running my hands through my hair.
The phone rang before anyone could answer my cryptic question and Nigel answered quickly, "Yes?"
Anna came to me, "I want to go to England. We aren't doing anything here."
"And once in England?" I asked softly.
"We can search for my brothers," she held out her hand, "Maybe they are still there."
Nigel slammed the receiver down on the old phone and stood up. "It's Allan!" he said excitedly.
"Allan?" Anna gasped.
He nodded, "King Byron said he just stumbled onto the grounds."
"Stumbled?" Shawn asked.
He walked around the desk and told Anna, "They tortured him, until he was able to escape." He took her hands and smiled, "He's in bad condition, but he's alive."
"Oh!" she gasped and they hugged.
"Well then," I said, "you are right," Anna let go of Nigel and looked at me. "They are still in England," I smiled.
"For now," Shawn nodded in agreement.
"We'll leave tonight," Nigel went to his desk. "I'll make the arrangements now. I'll double the guard." He looked at me, "You make sure you stay close to the house. Don't hunt while we're gone," he sat down and picked up the phone.
"I'm not staying here!" I snapped.
He slammed the receiver down and stood up, "Yes, you are."
"You can't go," Shawn said in a matter of fact tone.
"Like hell, I can't!" I said angrily.
"Marcus," Nigel said softly, "don't you understand what has happened? They, who ever THEY are, want your blood. They took what they thought was you because you hold certain powers that most vampires don't. You could be the start of a whole new race of Vampires," he spoke with awe in his voice, "A vampire so powerful that he can stand in the sun."
"I can't stand in the sun," I frowned.
"But your children may," he smiled at me.
"So why did they take Dad?" I put my hands in my pockets.
"He is the source," he said sorrowfully. The impact of those words hit me hard and created an uncomfortable silence in the room.
"So what are we doing?" Shawn walked over to Nigel's desk and leaned his hands on it.
"Go to England, follow leads, follow them to another country if we have to," Nigel stated.
"And I stay here and pace," I said miserably.
Nigel nodded, "Here, where it's safe."
"Great!" I wailed and paced across the floor.
"Marcus, I know you hate it, but it's the only thing to do," Nigel explained, "You have a special chemistry, not found in other Vampires. Until we find out why you are this way, we have to keep you safe."
"Some want that power for themselves," Shawn said, "and have killed for it."
"Yeah?" I laughed once, "Well they can have it."
