"DAMN!!" I yelped as the bandage was jerked across my chest.
"It has to be tight," Dad said and gestured to my chest with his hand, "You have broken ribs here."
"What the hell did you do?" Allan laughed from the doorway he was laying against. I didn't think the man ever stood on his own power.
"NOT your business," I frowned up at him as Dad secured the bandage.
"Well," Dad sighed, "Vampires usually heal pretty quick, but we don't want you healing wrong."
"Then we'd have to bust them again," Allan smiled broadly at me.
I slid my butt off the kitchen table and went to him, "Why are you such an ass?"
Instead of getting mad, he laughed, "What else is there?"
"You could try a little kindness," I put my hands on my hips.
"What's the point?" he shrugged and turned from me, "You just get stepped on if you're nice," he said over his shoulder and left the kitchen.
I watched him leave, then turned to Dad, "What's with him?"
"You'll have to excuse him, Marcus," he shook his head, "He's had a lot of pain in his life."
"I guess so, but haven't we all?" I shook my head.
"It would appear some more than others," he smiled, barely containing his laughter.
I allowed myself a smile, "You too, Dad?"
"I'm sorry," he laughed and touched my arm, then asked seriously, "What the hell happened up there?" he gestured to the ceiling, "I thought you two were getting along."
"So did I," I sighed, but stopped short, holding my ribs.
Dad pointed at me, "No deep breaths for a while."
"Thanks," I winced.
"What the hell!" a man's voice vibrated the walls as he came into the kitchen.
Dad's eyes widened, "My Lord!" he gasped.
"Michael, I sent you out for one thing," the man paced around the table and stood infront of me. "And I suppose YOU'RE the Youngling?"
My spine straightened to my full six feet, "That's what I've been called, but I hate it. My name is Marcus."
The man was as tall as I was, but bigger across the chest. His arms were barely contained inside his blazer and his neck almost filled his shirt collar. I could take a hit, but this guy looked like he could break your nose with one punch. "Marcus," he sneered, "If you were obtained for my daughter, why are you down here and not up there?" he pointed to the ceiling.
"Obtained?" I smiled sarcastically, folding my arms over my chest.
"Yes," he nodded his head once, "You are to be my daughters slave. No one told you?" he frowned and looked at Dad, "Michael?"
Dad winced, "Not yet, Sire."
He looked at me, "Consider yourself informed." He turned around, "Come on. Let's get you two in the same room."
"She'll kill me!" I gasped.
The man stopped abruptly and half turned, looking at Dad, "It happened already?"
"Yes Sire," he sighed heavily and shook his head, "I was just trying to find out what happened when you came in."
He turned to me fully, "What happened, Boy?"
"Marcus," I said through clenched teeth.
He looked like he thought about taking a step back, but he didn't. His voice was void of anger, "Alright Marcus. Tell us why she's mad," he sighed.
"Well," I said bravely, then my chest fell. "No," I turned from them and walked around to the other side of the table.
"We're only here to help, Son," Dad said gently.
"Well," I swallowed hard, remembering exactly what I had done. I was raping the poor woman. The stupid hunger had pushed me over the edge of sanity.
"You were hungry when you woke," Dad started for me.
I nodded, "And Anna let me bite her."
"We all do that," the big man said irritably.
"I just lost control," I shrugged and looked away from them. "She felt so right. I needed her...." I looked out the back door, "....to much."
"Did you take her?" the big man asked so softly that it didn't interrupt my thoughts.
"I slammed her to the bed and started loving her," I nodded my head and put my hands in my hair, "What happened to me? Why did I do that? I never did that to a woman before. I always wait for...." I sighed, "Well, she hates me now!"
"It's not your fault," Dad said, "You are a Young...." My eyes cut to him hatefully and he smiled, "You're new to vampire emotions."
"And our ability to heal," the man said, "Anna was taken at a young age. She is....a new woman with every man." I couldn't speak, only stare at him. He smiled sorrowfully, "She heals very quickly."
"I imagine you were hurting her," Dad said and bit his bottom lip.
I looked from one man to the other and my vision blurred. "I didn't know," I rasped, "and now she hates me." Tears fell down my face, "What have I done? What will her father say?"
"You've already heard from me," the big man smiled.
"This is Lord Nigel," Dad held his hand out to the big man, "Vampire Prince of the Second House." He pointed up to the ceiling, "Father of our Queen."
My heart was gripped with dread and fear shook me. "I'm sorry, sir. I didn't know."
"It's Sire when spoken in the familiar," he smiled at me and held out his hand.
"I'm sorry," I went around the table and shook his hand.
Prince Nigel looked at Dad and laughed as he shook my hand. "I will teach him, my Lord," Dad said quickly and pulled my hand down.
"I enjoy the familiarity. It's refreshing," he laughed, turned and left the kitchen.
"What were you thinking?" Dad gasped.
"What did I do?" I shrugged.
"Everything wrong!" he wailed.
