grayson

"um.. this place isn't as beautiful as you think." i said to her.

how would i explain what happens here? should i tell her about the constant suicides? the loss of life? the hatred in this town?

i looked back up to see her glaring at me with her arms crossed across her chest.

"w-what?"

"what do you mean?" she asked, glaring at me. i wished i could tell her but what if she left? she only just got here and i wanted to get a chance to get to know her, maybe make a proper friend for once. i looked down at my shoes. on second thought, maybe she didn't need to know.

"nevermind, you're new here you don't need to know. you're not part of us anyway" i ranted, i don't know what came over me but the words kept tumbling out of my mouth. i looked up to meet her eyes but i couldn't, she looked so hurt.

"whatever" she mumbled and stalked into the school.

she isn't worth it

"yo gray! where were you?" aaron asked as i entered the school building. i turned back to see my friends waiting by ethan's locker. alex, aaron, cameron and our newly forgiven friend, jack.

"i'm going to class" i muttered before turning to walk into class. i really didn't want to deal with them right now.

"woah, woah!" alex exclaimed, stopping in front of me. i had to do my best to not roll my eyes. they were being so annoying at the moment.

"grayson dolan is going to class? the grayson dolan? that's new" he said, looking back at everyone as they all laughed.

"what happened to you?" ethan asked, slapping me on the back playfully.

"nothing" i muttered, walking into my english class. i secretly hoped she was in my class.

no, i can't repeat history.

"late again, grayson?" mrs. rimlay asked, sighing as i walked into the classroom.

ashley

"late again, grayson?" i heard mrs. rimlay say, i looked up and saw him shoot me a dirty look and slump into a chair in the back.

honestly, what's his problem?

the school day was so boring. i ended up sitting alone because it was my first day and I didn't know anyone.

loner life.

*

"ash!!" was the first thing i heard as i opened the front door. i walked in to see my mom running towards me and pulling me into a bear hug.

what the—

"what?" i asked, my voice coming out muffled as my head was pressed against her chest.

"your father found this amazing job opportunity for you at the local library! and they already secured you an interview for tomorrow!" she said excitedly, beaming at me.

finally.

i had been looking for a job for so long but in my old town, they really didn't offer jobs to teens. i needed my own money so i could buy a car. i wasn't ready to walk to school every single day.

"but what about my resume?"

"your dad has everything figured out!"

"thank you guys so much" i said, hugging my mom again before running upstairs to text my best friend alexis, she would want to know this and everything that happened today.

ashley: yo yo yooo

alexis: heyyyy

alexis: how was your first day? i miss you already 😞

ashley: i miss you too 😭

ashley: my first day was meh

alexis: facetime!

alexis called and i told her everything, from grayson and his brother ethan to the teachers who already seemed annoying.

"so this grayson kid, is he cute?" she asked, i could already picture her smirking at the other end.

"lex!"

"sorryyy, i gotta know. this could be big. do you have a pic?"

"where would i get a pic from?" i asked, subconsciously rolling my eyes playfully

"well you need to get his instagram, i gotta see what he looks like"

i paused for a moment. getting his instagram and sending a pic wouldn't be too bad? not like i liked him anyways.

"the things i do for you" i replied, audible sighing.

"you know you love me"

"sadly"

she finally hung up to go to bed, i glanced at my clock and sighed, it was already 12:53 pm. i had my first job interview tomorrow, i needed sleep.

1 week later

"thank you and enjoy your read!" i said smiling at a mother and her child,

i bent down until i was at eye level with the child, "have fun reading!" i said politely, waving at them as they walked out of the library.

i had gotten the job and it wasn't all that bad. at least it wasn't a fast food restaurant or store where i would have had to stand and work long hours.

"ashley?" a voice called.

something about that voice was too familiar. it sent shivers down my spine as my body turn rigid.

i slowly turned around.

Sorry for leaving you on this! I'll update soon!
