Part IV
Kirin was enough to level the entire Old Uchiha Hideout. Sasuke panted where he stood, having leapt down from the raised wall and down onto the rubble. Hagami's body laid a long way away from him, face down on another large piece of rubble. From what Sasuke could see, she looked like she was dead.
Sasuke's heart dropped again, this time tangibly.
"NO, no, no no!" Sasuke shouted as he tried to get his body to move. However, that was impossible since the tampering with lightning stunned his nerves momentarily.
"I'm...not...dead yet." Hagami's voice brought joy to Sasuke's ears but at the same time dread. Hagami stood up, an ivory aura picking up around her body. The susanoo began to form around her body and she spoke in a raspy voice, "Without this, I may as well be dead." She smirked weakly and began to walk forward. "So, shall we continue?" She asked and Sasuke suddenly felt cornered.
He didn't plan on Hagami getting back up after having taken on Kirin head on. He panicked for a moment and the Curse Mark came back into play, only this time it took over his features, lengthened his hair, and turned the whites of his eyes black. Hagami smirked to herself, almost there.
Hagami began channeling more chakra into throughout her system which immediately resulted in her Susanoo becoming more complete. Hagami watched from afar as Sasuke began writhing in pain. She knew he had used all his chakra and that the repressing chakra trapping Orochimaru was gone. It wouldn't be long until he showed himself.
"D***it!" Sasuke shouted and grabbed his left shoulder. He was struggling to hold Orochimaru back. He dropped to his knees next, and Hagami watched at Orochimaru broke through the weakened seal.
Hagami looked up at the jutsu Orochimaru had released to take care of her. It was the Yamata no Jutsu (Eight-Headed Serpent Jutsu) and Hagami willed her Susanoo forward to meet the oncoming threat. Unlike normal jutsu that had to be wielded directly from its wielder, the Susanoo fed directly off the will of its creator. So Hagami did almost nothing in the fight against the Eight-Headed Serpent.
But she did wait for Orochimaru to appear. Despite revealing a katana from his mouth, Hagami wasn't deterred and she formed the katana again from her Susanoo. It glimmered a bright amber color and her Susanoo shoved it straight through Orochimaru and through the last serpent's head. Hagami ignored everything Orochimaru had to say and whilst Orochimaru was absorbed through the Totsuka Blade, she focused on Sasuke.
"Sasuke, what will you do now that I've stripped you of your last resort of power?" Hagami asked softly. She watched keenly as the last bit of Orochimaru's being fled from his body. "My job here...is done." She murmured to herself when her younger brother had been stripped of Orochimaru.
But it wasn't long after her feat that Hagami began feeling the after effects. She stumbled backward when a wave of pain and ill feeling ensnared her chest. It was enough to completely rid her Susanoo and she dropped to her knees. Another bout of blood escaped her mouth and her hand this time wasn't able to catch it all.
Sasuke saw her collapse and he suddenly clambered over to her, forgetting all of her threats and visions she had showed about him being killed and the Village being destroyed. None of that mattered to him now. Before Hagami was able to fall forward, Sasuke caught her in his arms. She was breathing shallowly and he flipped her onto her back where he laid her down gently. From here, she heaved to breath.
"S-Sasuke," Hagami murmured.
"I'm here. Don't die...don't die!" Sasuke pleaded at her as he felt her neck for a pulse. It was there but very weak. "No, no no no!"
"It's fine, Sasuke." Hagami whispered. "This is how it was supposed to turn out."
"No, you're not supposed to die here, not like this. You've protected the Clan and the Village, please, hold on. All of the Village Elders know the truth. Most of the Uchiha Clan knows too already. We can prove that you're innocent." Sasuke was hunched over her, his eyes pleading that she stay with him. They became clouded with tears too but none of them fell as he attempted to stay strong.
"Sasuke!" Another voice shouted in the area. The barrier had fallen but the Uchiha still remained guarding the area. However, two Uchiha were running into the area and Hagami still had enough energy to identify who they were.
Itachi landed beside Sasuke and he placed a hand on his younger brother's shoulder. Shisui landed on Hagami's right where no one else was. He took in her state immediately and his eyes began to water without him knowing. Hesitantly, Shisui reached out to her face, gently wiping some of the blood that was left behind by the Amaterasu or Tsukuyomi.
"H-Hagami..." Shisui sputtered and his hand went down to her shoulder. He gave it an extremely squeeze to which Hagami winced. Shisui mumbled a quiet apology quickly.
"Shisui-kun." Hagami greeted back in a weakened voice. "Keep...Itachi...and Sasuke...safe...alright?" She asked with a weak but bright smile on her face. "Itachi...watch over the...Village...like I couldn't do... And Sasuke...oh Sasuke...I'm so, so sorry...I'm so sorry that...I've lied...to you for all...these years... Please...as a last request...for all of you...please forgive me..." she spent her last words on each of the people she cherished the most in the world.
"I will." Sasuke responded first but his voice was strained and hoarse. He grabbed her left hand and squeezed it tightly but not enough to hurt her. Even so, Hagami winced hence every cell in her body ached from both her Susanoo and illness.
"Hn," Itachi grunted but Hagami knew it was of acceptance and understanding. He situated himself so that he could lift two fingers to her forehead. Gently, he poked her there and then drew back whilst closing his eyes.
"W-We all f-forgive you Hagami-chan." Hagami could feel a warm liquid drop down onto her arm. She immediately figured it was Shisui's tears and her hand weakly found his. She gave it a reassuring squeeze and he hiccuped quietly. "D-Don't forget us." The clouds overhead released their gentle rain over the four of them.
"Ari...gato..." she thanked them with her last breath until her life left her body's confines.
