Part I
Shisui's hands clenched the sheets. His head had a sheen of sweat and his eyes moved rapidly beneath his lids. His room was pitch black and silent, save for the flashes outside his window and the distant rumbling. He jerked onto his side, his hands shooting up to his head. Shisui curled into a ball, a small whimper escaping his lips.
Suddenly, a crack of thunder shook the house and Shisui jolted upward. Beads of sweat began to drip down his face and he heaved to breath. It took him a few seconds to begin to calm down when he realized that his Sharingan was in his eyes. Shisui brought his hand up to his right eye. His other hand was busy clenching the sheets and he didn't need any light to know that his knuckles were white.
D***it. Shisui cursed and he tried releasing his hand from the sheets. Eventually it did, but it shook in the air.
Hagami was still awake by 3 AM. Her hands worked busily on a report. Guided by deepened lines in the paper, she felt around before she wrote something. It gave her a depth of perception and how to write in a straight line, since she could no longer see.
She only finished one line when a quiet knock made her jump in the chair. Hagami sighed in relief when she checked to make sure that she hadn't streaked ink across the paper.
Who'd be up this late? Sasuke certainly isn't, he's home with his family since the Chūnin Exams are starting soon. Hagami thought as she pushed herself up. It isn't Itachi either. I don't think he'll be back for another week since he's in Sunagakure.
Hagami guided herself by the walls and when she got to the table near the door, she grabbed her tantō. She opened the door slowly, the tantō poised to strike in case it was an unknown shinobi. Though the war was far in the past, trauma still coursed through Hagami's veins and she decided to be cautious rather than too trusting.
"Shisui?" Hagami recognized his chakra. She lowered her arm back to the table and forced her hand to release the tantō. "Are you okay?" She opened the door further and allowed him to walk inside.
She didn't hear him speak but there was a quiet whimper coming from him. An almost inaudible gasp passed Hagami's lips and she darted away. She returned to Shisui with a box of tissue and guided him toward the inside of her house. She didn't know what was wrong yet but whatever it was was making his chakra sporadic.
"T-Thank you." He murmured bringing a tissue to his eyes. He was able to deactivate his Sharingan halfway to her house but he knew that Hagami could tell that he had it in his eyes.
Hagami pressed her lips into a thin line. Over the past month Shisui had arrived at her house at least three times previously, each time with his eyes filled with tears or his body being racked by shivering. Of course, Hagami couldn't tell he was shaking until she put a hand on his shoulder.
Something must've really shaken him up. Usually he's calmed down by now. Hagami noted. Another nightmare... She drifted off.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Hagami asked breaking the silence between them. She could no longer tell where Shisui was now that his chakra was spreading around the room. It practically seeped from his body since his emotions weren't in check-and it was safe for Hagami to assume that he was extremely tired too.
"No." He responded with a raspy voice.
"Okay." Hagami turned around, walking toward the kitchen.
"Why're you up...this late?" Shisui asked when she reached toward the cabinets over the sink. He made his way over to her and saw her gingerly touching the handles.
