It was probably the last time she would be seeing her hometown, Bormes Les Mimosas. She didn't think if she could afford to come back here for killing herself. This was it. They were many ways to die in Paris anyway.
They started for Paris a couple hours before sunset. The florally decorated streets, the panoramic view of the plains, the common pink tiles that covered most of the houses, the cool air that played with the pinewoods sent a wave of nostalgia over Renée. It reminded her of moments long forgotten. Travelling did that to her, making her mind wander to unexpected places.
The car reminded Renée of a fond memory, it was of new year's day when her family were going on a weekend trip to Toulon, which was about six hours away.
Renée was bored beyond limit and Nathan wasn't even entertaining her as he was snoring off like a koala in the back seat. It was early morning, and there were hardly any cars on the highway.
"Renée, how about you sit here on my lap and drive?" her father said, sensing her boredom.
The eight-year-old Renée couldn't believe her ears. She was delighted beyond limit as she had always wanted to drive a car and was annoyed at the fact she had to wait for at least ten years.
"Really daddy? You are the best!" she exclaimed as she hopped into the driver's seat.
Renée laughed merrily while she held the steering wheel and continuously pumped the horn, her heart fluttered in happiness as the birds above defied wind's rules, competing with the zooming car while the trees on the side bowed in greeting.
