Adalie, Renée's mother had refused to accept any money from her ex-husband. Although, Adalie and Renée's grandmother did tailoring, it hardly helped them. Naturally, the responsibility fell on Nathan. He had always wanted to go study engineering in a university abroad. But the tuition fees that had been saved up for him was used up in emergency when Renée had gotten into an accident when she was younger.
He could have taken a loan, but the paperwork was too much of a hassle, and Nathan ended up taking a job at the local tool shop, which he had later bought from the owner.
"Nathan had to give up his dreams because of you, Renée. You crushed his dreams" Ciara said.
