Renée's hands shook as the loud voices of her parents tore through her eardrums, her heart hammering with terror. She clutched her soft shirt tightly, rubbing her fingers against it, a habit she was used to performing during the times she was scared or worried, any kind of soft fabric would work. It was weird, but it helped her ease the horror that chilled her spine as her parents continued to raise their voices. Nathan was at his shop, her grandma was visiting one of her friends, Renée needed someone to be with her. She wanted the noises to stop. She tried to block them out by pressing onto her ears, but it didn't help, she was fated to be the victim of that torture.
She gulped the lump in her throat as her lips wobbled when she heard her father shout,
"We are moving to Paris and nobody is going stop me" and the slamming of the front door was heard. Renée deciphered from the fragments of the loud conversation she unwillingly heard that her father, Arthur, wanted to move to Paris as it had many great opportunities for his business while her mother, Adalie, furiously refused.
"Ciara, d..did you hear that?" Renée asked, her eyes tearing.
"Yes I did, I'm so sorry Renée" she said, in a low voice.
"I d..don't want my parents to fight. I don't want to go to Paris. I want to s..stay here, this is my home" Renée croaked out.
"It's okay Renée, I'll be there with you wherever you go, don't worry"
Ciara said in a reassuring tone as a gentle smile painted her lips.
