Everything is falling apart.

First my friendship with Link.

Then with Peach.

And now even my grades ?

"This is not your typical performance, Zelda. I am aware that this is not your best." Ms. Impa gently placed my test paper in front of me.

68%.

"I...I don't get how I got this," I explained nervously. I'm an A student. At least a B student! How did I get...this?

"Was it just that you weren't feeling it or are do you need help?"

I don't know.

"I think it was just...I just screwed it up for some reason."

She looked at me with concern. "You sure?"

"Yes, I'm sure."

There was an awkward silence.

"Can I retake it?"

My teacher sighed. "I can let you retake some of it." She flipped to the second page of the test. "See, here? You missed that whole section, but I already know that you know this topic. You did pretty well on the practice for it, at least..."

She explained to me where I went wrong, but it all went in one ear and out the other.

And here I thought I had my life together.

I guess not.

"Zelda!"

I groaned. "Who is it...?" No one should be by my room. Peach is with Daisy right now, after all.

"It's Samus, loser. Open up!"

I rubbed my eyes. "Samus...?"

"Yeah."

I huffed and rubbed my eyes. "Coming." My life sucks so much that I didn't even bother trying to look like an actual princess.

I pulled the door open.

"Hey! Merry..." Samus looked at me for a second and her smile faltered. "...Christmas...?"

Okay, I'll admit I didn't just look like "not a princess". I looked like trash. I had dark bags under my eyes, my hair was all over the place, I'm pretty sure there was a chocolate stain on my shirt, etc. I looked bad.

"Uhm, I came to give you a gift."

"Mhm," I deadpanned.

"Well, here you go." She handed me the gift.

It was a purple mug with a bunch of chocolates inside. Chocolate. Exactly what I need for my depressing life.

"Are you okay, Zel?"

The question caught me off guard.

"H-huh?"

Samus shrugged. "You just...don't look all that great right now."

Samus caring? That's a first.

"If you need a shoulder, just remember that I happen to be next door."

I managed a smile. "Thanks, Samus."

"I'm being serious, you know. We have it off today, and a bunch of people are out visiting their families right now, so..." Her expression got kind of distant.

"Want to come in...?"

She froze. "Oh, uh...sure."

Samus and I were never very close. Now that I think about it, my only close friend was Link.

"How's it going between you and Link?"

And yet another question to catch me off guard.

"Uhm..."

Samus raised a brow. "You like him, don't you."

Okay, I'll admit. Samus can read faces like books.

"Why don't you tell him?" she continued. Wow, it's so obvious she doesn't even need your confirmation.

"He might reject me, Samus."

"No he won't. If anything, I bet he likes you too."

I froze.

Her eyes widened. "Wait...so you didn't even notice?"

I shook my head.

"Don't worry, hun. He likes you."

"Are...are you sure?"

"A hundred percent."

I took a deep breath. "Okay."

"Okay so?"

"So I'll try today."

Samus cracked a smile. "Atta girl. Go get your man."

I rubbed my trembling hands together.

Hopefully I can fix this one part of my life.
