B. Loski's Point of View"I like Sarah. She's a very sweet girl." My mother said with a smile, passing me the potatoes. I nodded a little. My dad looked over at me, "Whats the deal with that girl Naomi? She's a bit of a looney." He chuckled, trying to make conversation.
My blood began to boil but I refrained from yelling and cursing at my dad to stop talking about her. My mother shrugged, "I've always liked that Naomi. She's very kind. She always offers to mow our lawn and says hi to me every morning when she rides by before I leave for work."
My father disapprovingly shook his head, "Their family is a little off and she seems like a bit of a nerd." My older sister, Lynetta, furrowed her brows and looked at my father, "What's wrong with being smart?"
Lynetta has always been a pest in my opinion, but in this moment I praised her for standing up to our dad when I couldn't. My father shrugged, "Well.." he trailed off, having nothing more to say.
I looked out the window to see the sun was nearly setting. "I forgot something at school I need for homework! Can I go ride to get it?" I asked. My father shrugged me off and my mother nodded. I bolted outside and grabbed my bike, riding to our spot.
I hurriedly rushed to the top to meet Naomi, but she wasn't there. Seeing her absence made my heart sink. I sighed as I leaned down to grab the note from the floor.
"Couldn't wait any longer. Have huge History project. Wish me luck?
—N.H."I folded the note back up as I sat down, my back against the wall as I looked out at the sunset. I let out a deep breathe as my eyes traced the colors painted across the sky.
I wish Naomi was here, is the first thing I think. It's always better when she's here, and even though that sounds stupid, it makes perfect sense to me.
She just makes it. Her presence makes the sunset and sunrise so much better. She doesn't even have to say anything or do anything and it just makes me feel better knowing she's here with me.
Right now, I feel worse knowing she's not. She said she has a project but I can't help but torture myself thinking I did something. Why am I reading into this so much? I didn't do anything! She just has work! Stop it Bryce.
I shake my head at myself, focusing my mind in the sunset, nothing else. However, I trail back to her.
"Hey." Naomi sweetly greeted me with a smile. I chuckled as I looked down at her, "Hi."
Naomi smiled, "You've almost made it." She said with a laugh. I crossed my fingers, "Hopefully I can finish strong!" I joke. Naomi's admirable laugh filled the empty halls.
"I'll see you later?" Naomi asked. I nodded a little, "I'm looking forward to it."
"So am I."
I wish you were here, I think, wishing Naomi could here it. As if saying it in my head would project to hers. If it were that easy, she'd know how she makes me feel. I wish I could tell her. For now, I'll just be the guy with a crush on girl he can never have.
