Glancing at the clock I saw it was eight. ''I guess I should get ready.'' I muttered to myself.

I showered and dressed quickly, wearing the clothes I set out earlier; a fitted black dress; and high-heeled red pumps. I brushed my hair and left it in its natural waves.

Phil was sipping tea at the breakfast bar.

''How do I look?'' I asked twirling around.

''You look lovely,'' Phil murmured. ''Damon is a l-

The door bell interrupted Phil.

I slowly opened the front door and was greeted by my boyfriend Damon, with a red rose in his hand. He was wearing a black, sharp-looking, well-fitted suit. Exactly the sort of suit that a woman would pick out for her man to wear to a formal event like this. It made him look handsome and when he smiled, it was a little bit magical.

''You look astonishing, babe.'' He said, dropping his gaze on me, scanning my whole outfit. ''This is for you.'' He handed me the red rose.

''It's lovely.'' I smiled up at him. ''Gracias.''

My mama always used to tell me that red roses meant love and are given to those who you want to show love and passion, people who you have great respect for and those who have shown courage.

Damon grabbed my hand, and pulled me closer to him, his gaze on my lips. We were leaning in closer, wanting to feel each others' lips when Phil came to the door and introduced himself. ''Hi, I'm Phil, Sarah's best friend. You must be Damon.''

Damon regained his posture and introduced himself, ''Yes, that's me. Pleasure meeting you.'' They shook hands and exchanged looks. That was awkward.

I decided to cut off the awkwardness. ''So, let's go shall we?''

''Yes. Come on, dear.'' Damon said as he gently grabbed my hand.

''Just have her home by midnight!'' Phil shouted.

''Left here.'' Damon ordered. ''Hell-gently, babe.'' He grabbed hold of the dashboard.

I rolled my eyes at him but didn't turn to look at him. Coldplay crooned in the background over the car system.

''Slow down!'' He yelled.

''I am slowing down!'' I shouted back.

Damon sighed. ''Are you new to driving?'' He asked.

I scowled at him. ''Keep your eyes on the road!'' He shouted.

My blood boiled. I pulled over to the curb just before a traffic light and stormed out of the car, slamming the door, and standing on the sidewalk arms crossed. I glared at him. He climbed out of the car.

''What are you doing?'' He asked angrily, staring down at me.

''No. What are you doing?'' I insisted.

''You can't park here.''

''I know that.''

''So why have you?''

''Because I've had it with you barking orders. Either you drive or just shut up about my driving!'' I yelled.

''Sarah, get back in the car before we get a ticket!''

''No.''

He blinked at me, then ran a hand through his hair, his anger became bewilderment. He frowned, making me smile up at him. He looked like a cartoon character.
