It was a gray day in St.Louis Missouri, but I refused to let the weather dampen my soaring spirits. Damon was in a good mood. He was excited about introducing me to his father.
Damon looked dreamy in his black fitting shirt and denim jeans. He took my hand as we walked in a restaurant.
''I'm nervous.'' I whispered, as a waiter guided us to a table at the far back of the restaurant.
''Don't be.'' He smiled, kissing my cheek momentarily, before coughing to let his father know we were there.
''Father.'' Damon whispered.
A man dressed in an expensive suit turned around, and hugged Damon. He looked good considering his age. Blue eyes, balding, good smile and teeth. He looked at peace with himself and the world. He had such a friendly face.
''Hello, son.'' He shook his hand, momentarily before his gaze fell on me. ''And who is this lovely lady?'' He asked.
''Her name is Sarah. She's the woman I've been telling you about.'' Damon spoke in my stead.
''It's lovely to meet you, Sarah. My name is Greg.'' He took out his hand for me to shake, but to my dismay he took my hand in his and lifted it to his mouth, leaving a soft kiss onto my knuckles.
''Please, sit. Join me for lunch.'' Greg offered us.
Damon and I sat next to each other opposite Greg.
''Damon has told me so much about you, Sarah. Is it true, you're interested in writing?'' He asked me.
''Yes, I love British literature.'' I smiled at him.
''Do you have any published works?''
I looked at the ground. ''No, not yet.''
''Then, what do you do for a living?'' He asked me, his eyes focused on the newspaper in front of him.
I crossed my arms over my chest. ''I'm still looking for a job...but I wish to pursue a career in writing.''
''So, who pays for the bills?'' He asked persistent.
''She lives in Chicago with her room-mate, Dad. I think you know him. His name is Phil Anderson.'' Damon interrupted.
''Ah, yes. Never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I know his father.'' He tapped his chin with two of his fingers. ''Are you still living with him?'' He asked, looking at me.
''He's visiting his parents at the moment, so I'm staying at Damon's place.'' I informed him.
His mouth formed into a thin line. ''I guess, you're used to people paying bills for you, now...now, tell me, Sarah. Does my son treat you right?''
I nodded my head. ''Yes, he's wonderful.''
Damon smiled at me and put his hand onto my thigh, slightly squeezing it.
''Son, did you respond to Mr. Stevenson's email?'' Greg asked him.
Damon closed his eyes and ran a hair through his tousled hair. ''No. I must have forgotten.''
''Well good thing, I responded to them myself...Damon, Mr. Stevenson is an important client, we can't lose him.'' Greg's voice harsh.
''It must have slipped my mind.'' Damon defended himself.
''You're being careless, Damon...I think you're spending too much time with this lady, rather than focusing on your responsibilities. Too much fooling around won't make you any richer.''
''I'll get right on it.'' Damon's voice low.
''That's what I like to hear...can I get you two some coffee?'' He asked, smiling.
